As much as I love Beam as a driving simulator, racing simulator, and physics simulator, the average 10-year-old kids of the gaming world don't really care about Beam as much as other games because of its major drawbacks. (I understand that some of its disadvantages, like no real-life stuff, will never be overcome; I'm just pointing out some of its major flaws that may be causing its popularity to be dropping slightly.)

Think about it: Games like Forza, Need for Speed, GTA 5, and Gran Turismo have been HUGE successes in the racing game world because they offer a lot of advantages that the average consumer cares about: large multiplayer lobbies, dozens (if not hundreds) of cars (usually real-life supercars, muscle cars, JDM cars, and race cars), playability at 1080p60 max graphics on consoles, lots of regular updates, huge maps (or tons of race tracks in GT's and Forza's cases), amazing graphics, and DLCs that add even more content on top of that. That is the stuff that most people look at when it comes to buying a racing game. Even Brick Rigs (although plagued by terrible driving physics) is better than Beam, as it looks a lot better, has 16-player-maximum multiplayer lobbies and Steam Workshop support for automatic mod updating (but a lot of those vehicle mods are copies/5-minute builds), is a lot easier to mod, and has an in-game city and interactive environmental objects. Admittedly, the major reason I don't play Brick Rigs nearly as much as Beam is because of how awful every vehicle feels to drive, and how the online servers aren't all that fun to play in, but at least it has multiplayer.

Beam on the other hand, is handicapped by its major downfalls compared to AAA games: a tiny (but committed and excellent) dev team pushing out updates every 2-4 months; a lack of any sort of in-game objectives (you pretty much make your own game); a serious lack of cars and maps, with none of them being the real-life cars or maps that people are usually attracted to; and very few of the vehicles are cars that regular games like to play with (supercars, race cars, or JDM cars). It doesn't (and may not ever have) online multiplayer, a capability to run on consoles at at least medium graphics, a way to easily mod the game (unless you want a Russian-quality mod), or giant maps to drive around in. It also doesn't have automatic mod updating (yet), and most of the vehicle mods are of cars that not many average gamers would be interested in. Also, most of the big Youtubers who play this game are primarily crashing folk who overplay certain crashing trends (i.e. spike-strip crashes, chained-car crashes) for clickbait, which likely leaves a bad impression of the game's community upon their subscribers. After all, who would be interested in a game where the big 'tubers do the same things over and over and over and over again, simply to try and earn that ad revenue? Most other racing games have quite a lot of variety in how their Youtube communities create content containing the game (with some exceptions, of course); Beam is plagued by the spike-strip and chained-car videos, with a few people (like Serzari, WhyBeAre, and FailRace) not making videos like this.

Overall, Beam is great for what it is. What is there is amazing, very high-quality, and very fun to play with, and even though it's built around an ancient game engine, it feels excellent. It also has probably the greatest dev team I've ever seen in a game, which pushes out fantastic updates and listens very well to its community and knows how to make a game better than I've seen from bigger franchises. Quantity, though, is where it has some issues compared to AAA titles.

Well said. I don't expect the game to include real life cars but the community sorta goes for modding the fictional cars which is why lots of the typical players go for russian mods instead of the mods section with higher quality vehicles. I felt like you sorta pushed too hard on the dev team though, I mean, you gotta give them some slack. They're working really hard with a really limited amount of people but I do agree with the lack of any objectives. If you look at the changelog, 3/4 of it is just bug fixes or optimizations that would never help your performance anyway. 1/4 of the changelog is the juicy part.

RoR is kinda dead, lets be honest now. It still has a small thriving community but probably will decline in the future even further.

Noted and edited. At least the Beam devs listen to their community and pushes out fantastic content, and has also massively improved its game since 2013. It's just that to compete with AAA titles in the market place, it needs a little more stuff included with it.

I don't think BeamNG is dying. Like someone said somewhere else in this thread, YouTube hits of Beam are biggest when new vehicles come out. The most new vehicles came out in 2014-2016. In 2017, there has only been one, the Hopper. After WCA and the Bluebuck come out, popularity will soar. Every little shmuck on YT with the game will make videos of the Bluebuck cruising and crashing in the new city. There will probably be more downloads and new community members. The reason this didn't happen with 0.10 is the lack of a new car or map. 0.10 was great, but only contained things that people who already own Beam really cared about, such as sounds and optimizations. Nothing to hook in new people.

You gotta remember though, the majority of the fans only care about supercars and cars in demand, not some 50s car that they don't want.

    Sad but true.

Oh well lets stop debating when BeamNG is going to die off. IT will die off, just enjoy it while it is still here and alive.

Think about it this way. BeamNG.drive is a game about driving various of vehicles and has some amazing mods but that's...pretty much it. I can understand if it is losing popularity but it would only be a slight decrease. The game has so much stuff to discover that we haven't figured out yet unless you stay on 24/7 and you've tried everything that there known to exist to BeamNG.drive (which would probably be near impossible...maybe), but besides that, there is a lot of things to try in this amazing game. Heck, if you want, try some shaders out, they make the game look outstandingly amazing, if you don't trust shaders, however, then look for a texture mod (which some may use shaders actually). Besides all of this, the game is still alive, if it was dead, they wouldn't have this wonderful community here now would they? Just do what you do best, drive cars, crash them, repeat. Enjoy <3

They'll still pounce on a new car when it drops, and here on the forums, many people do want the Bluebuck. I've been wanting it since I got the game three years ago. I wanted the Bluebuck more than the Hopper prior to 0.9.

Supercar fanboys (at least ones who would only want them in a game) are not true fans of BeamNG.drive.
