Yeah for beamNG it is, but in game my fps is fine. Actually saved alot of polys from the old front bumper so that gave me some creativity room that i already used up.. Still though it should be fine.

This has little to do with the topic, but I am actually now thinking about doing modeling. I still say no to coding, because I need some sort of constant visual reward in order for me to keep my motivation.
I am trying to model this "Dream Machine" for my tech class, where we have to either draw or model something that is impossible to invent (my machine can materialize your thoughts, and has restrictions to prevent chaos), and I am using SketchUp (I am about to try 3DS 2014 tomorrow, downloading now, and I was able to get a student license thing), and I have made some progress.

And the more I typed that, the more I realized that this is so off topic, but I still want to post a pic of my 30 minutes of progress:

Looks cool man. And sketch up wouldn't be the best thing to get addicted to like me.. I'm kinda like being a machinist making the parts for the gti and drowsy is the mechanic building the car :D.
    . Thank you drowsy! Lol

If Max is not that hard to learn, I will try to use that, but SketchUp is just simple, and I like it. I would most likely do what you are doing, make parts, then get someone else to jbeam. Once again, ADHD really makes me unable to code, and I know Myth said before that it is not an excuse because he has it as well and look at how sexy his stuff is (he didn't say sexy, just the ADHD thing), but I just am completely unable to focus on tedious things. Modeling is super tedious at first, learning the interface and learning all the things to do, but as I saw in the four houses I made, with the first one, well, I don't want to talk or think about it, and the fourth being something I am proud of, I can tell that is how I will be with other stuff.

Here is the little Muffler, going to modify the rear bumper to support to like its stock..

Way too much time was spent with this fitment but this is how the alignment with the exhaust and bumper should be in game.

Also!! Wasnt gonna spoil this but I cant hold it in.. These will be the wheels that come on this vehicle :)

^^ Rota Shakotan's! Same size as the sport wheels.. I love em and I think the GTi is gonna rock the hell out of them.

Dude this car looks like it's gonna be sick! Those rims look nice. Will it have an optional roll cage? Or are you just gonna use the one Gabester already modeled for this car?

Thanks man! And on the roll cage topic I've thought about using on but in beta 0.2 release of the gti there won't be a roll cage. I might use gabesters as an option in maybe beta 0.3 but i'm trying for the factory performance idea of things. I love those wheels. And they will actually be very easy to model lol.

    - - - Updated - - -

Rims are almost finished, got to add the thickness and a couple more tweaks and they are finished!

    Introducing!! Rota Shakotans!

Just realized the wheel spokes arent sitting deep enough, fixing that now

    Update:

They look much much nicer now. Changed some proportions.. Got some more things to do before they are finished though.

Re: JDM's Covet Expansion Pack! - Update! 1/13 New Rims!

Heres another update, I know i've probably went way too high poly with this but the front bumper has to look really clean and oem. Gave the bumper a lot more depth and quality.

Looks beautiful I think. Sorry guys for a little high on the detail..

Intercooler crap finally freaking done! Lots of custom work but hopefully it simulates the real thing well enough :p

Looks like the worst flowing turbo kit I've ever seen.

C'mon, you gotta cut him some slack. I know that your mods are tup-nutch-dkutch, but I have learned from the four houses I made in SketchUp, that yes, models get better the more you do it. I know very little about engines, so I can't really have a say in the "structural" integrity of the turbo.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize it's so difficult to look at reference pics, and the mods out there in the world to figure out how to make a bend properly, without the silly waste of vertex segments displayed here.

EDIT: All someone has to do is open my Covet MRi mod in whatever modeling program they use, to figure out how to make bends and intercooler pipes.

Re: JDM's Covet Expansion Pack! - Update! 1/13 New Rims!

With my past experiences with SketchUp, it is really, really annoying to create tubes, and I am not sure if it does this in other modeling softwares, but it has a tendency to do the exact opposite of what you want, at the perfectly worst times. If you look at my little machine thing pictures, the grey and maroon part was supposed to be an incline, like the other side. But because the move tool wouldn't move the left side down, it would only move it side to side. So, maybe you always need to make exact measurements, but I have had to deal with that with the houses, and SketchUp is just annoying like that.

I am a very beginner modeler, and I probably shouldn't even be called one, lol. I should really learn either Blender or Max, because I now have both. Whichever one is easier to learn, intuitive-interface and controls wise, because I have learned that I have a hard time with the videos.

Try both, see which one you like. I tried both, but prefer Blender. It frustrates me to see people waste their time in sketchup. :(

Re: JDM's Covet Expansion Pack! - Update! 1/13 New Rims!

I personally and very truly hate it, but it is very easy. I guess that the easiness will make up for the mass frustration that I always get when something will not do what I want. I think that I really need to learn one of the two, and I will just learn the very basics. Like, I need to be able to make some sort of a box car, lol.

Also, if I am gonna keep up with the conversation, I am in school, so yeah.

Re: JDM's Covet Expansion Pack! - Update! 1/13 New Rims!

Sketchup is fine for buildings, scenery etc.

But it is in no way good for editing vehicles, I've been helping JDM with this, trying to export it from Sketchup and importing it to Blender, basically what you get is a big mess, and you spend 95% of the time fixing the original mesh up in Blender because Sketchup is terrible when it comes to mesh and exporting.

(It has no groups, screws UV's COMPLETELY, there doesn't seem to be an "origin" for the mesh, when you import it, everything is either huge or in the complete wrong place, every edge is 'split', multiple faces are in faces. You get the point.)

If you want to edit vehicles, then PLEASE do not use Sketchup AT ALL. It may seem simple, because Sketchup is simple, but I am the one here fixing things up in Blender, and it's honestly such a pain, I just couldn't see JDM's hard work go to waste.

    Rant over <3

Re: JDM's Covet Expansion Pack! - Update! 1/13 New Rims!

Been trying to learn Blender dkutch, so far I hate it. And yeah I know its not the best its difficult to create smooth bends in the intercoolers piping in sketchup. Trying though man. We are having an issue getting the exhaust ported over to blender, idk why it just doesnt want to load and same for my wheels :(

Thank you drowsy! Yeah when this GTi mod is finished I will try to learn other software.
