I'm trying and I have no idea what I'm doing that said I've probably invested a couple hours in trying to make a jbeam that doesn't freeze the game and failed
I could probably do the JBeam part but wouldn't know where to start with the mesh... Does it have to look good? If not I might be able to make a cuboid with wheels...
Quick question would having using a tail rudder count as steering? instead of having the wheels turn (sorry if this is a stupid question, I read the rules but was just curious)
I'd say if you can make it work, more power to you The point is that the vehicle has to be able to steer. A rudder wouldn't work at low speed, so you'd need steered wheels too. If you can combine rudder + steered wheels, you might have a mean combination.
Can we have 2 groups of vehicle competition? I think it would make it a lot more fair in the end. One for experts like Dkutch, Muira and Mythbuster and one with slightly lifted rules* for novices like me. *(aloud to recycle parts from official vehicles. E.g. Hyper modify a chassis or use existing suspension)
i wish i could model cars i would really like to try but don't know how to get started it would be cool if someone could tell me what i need to get started
Blender and enough time to watch loads of blender tutorials, that's how I learned but I still can't make wheels or Jbeam yet lol
Off topic for just one minute, If you mix Elmer's glue and water in a bowl, then dip newspaper in it, it makes paper mache(or however it's spelled) and lay it as a hardened cover over your cardboard roll and egg carton lids or whatever it is. Then paint it. It is easy and fun. And will make in 10000% better.
Or if you use that brown kraft paper and dip it like you said and then sand it with 600 grit sand paper you have a nice smooth hardened finish
Is it possible for me and MrNiz to edit a pr-existing n/b. It would be totally unrecognisable and have a totally custom mesh. to give you an example, our current version has six wheels. Its very different to the D-15 the chassis was based of.
I've been attempting to model a land speed vehicle for the past day now and it looks ok(by my standards) I still have no idea on Gods green earth how to model a working suspension but I do like the idea of having a second competition class for inexperienced modelers and maybe being able to use an existing suspension and heavily modifying an existing chassis. But I do see where you are coming from DKutch, if you did make a second class and people did start signing up, it would most likely turn out to be a huge flop because, they would never finish the model or quit halfway in and most likely half of the community doesn't know how to Jbeam yet(I don't know how to Jbeam either) but maybe someday!
