Coincidentally, the Moldovan car has a plate holder from the Brass dealership in Aschaffenburg, which is the main Opel dealership in my area and most Opels here were bought at the exact same dealership as this car seems to have been... It's not even too far off that the car owner might have been active in my area, two or so years ago, a new building was constructed in the town of Michelstadt and the construction company pretty much only hired Moldovan workers, so we had a flood of Moldovan cars here for a short while.
Just saw a Bulgarian Temporary license plate on the Kaufland parking lot in Michelstadt Also, Romanian car I saw on a parking lot in Erbach, they are basically as common as Polish plates in here
These cars with German text on their plate holders were most likely originally bought in Germany and later on exported to eastern Europe. There are plenty of driving POVs of older cars recorded in eastern Europe where the cars still have the original German emissions badge on the windshield. I also saw a Zafira Tourer recently that's probably had this happen to it: the license plate was from the Republic of Kosovo but the plate holder had some German text on it. It was also colored in the typical beige of a German taxi, so it was most likely used as a taxi here before being exported.
Two of my greatest spots so far and both on the same day... Luxembourg military plate Mexican plate in Luxembourg
no pictures (because it passed by fast) but today i saw a DAF XF105 (or we can just say lorry) from Ukraine, in my town.
nice! Here are some more plates I saw during my trip to Luxembourg, but the photos were too blurry: -Dutch Dealer Plate -Austrian Export Plate -Moldovan Plate with Trailer
Daewoo Lanos with 1976-2000 Polish license plate Volvo with Norwegian license plate VW Golf with Swedish license plate Lanos spotted in Wrocław, Volvo and Golf spotted in my town
On my trip to Luxembourg, I saw three Serbian plates (before the trip I had only seen one so far since they aren't usually in small rural areas like mine), here they are: First one on the B426 near Darmstadt (really rare in those rural areas) Second one during a sightseeing tour in the city of Trier (Germany) Third one while walking from the train station to Fort Thüngen in Luxembourg City Also, I saw my very first IRL Montenegrin plate so far on our way to a parking garage in Luxembourg City
Yesterday my dad spotted a semi truck from some balkan country with a trailer from Tunisia Spotted in Kaiserslautern (D)
Today I spotted a new variant for Vienna Taxis: apparently they have ran out of numbers with W - xxxx TX so the new taxi plates say W - xxx ATX. (and I guess BTX and so on after this)
Saw this while walking to school this Tuesday... the license plates might be stolen because the "owner" put them on the other way round (rear in front and front in rear) so unless the TÜV guy was really drunk when putting on the sticker or the owner temporarily had to take them off, I am very sure that something illegal is going on here...
There might be other reasons. Does a "Wechselkennzeichen" (plate that belongs to up to three cars, changeable) exist in Germany? That could be a possible reason. Or the owner went to a new workshop for service, where they like to change the license holders for a little advertising and got it wrong.
I see we are lucky here in Austria to have up to three cars on one plate and only pay insurance and taxes for the most powerful one. My uncle has 3 WKZ for his (7 or 8?) motorcycles, so he has to have a list to remember which plate can go on which bike.
Opel Omega B FL kombi from Belarus ZAZ 1103 Slavuta from Ukraine A Volvo SUV (i don't know model name) from Lithuania, i think these are temporary plates but not 100% sure Dacia Logan and Mazda 5 from Ukraine + Volkswagen Passat B5 FL kombi from Belarus
In the span of two weeks, I spotted two Alaska license plates. The first instance was on January 19, and the second was on February 4. Given that I do not live in Alaska, this by itself is already quite a stretch. The thing is, I do not live in Washington, or really the west coast of the US either... I live on the east coast! (Well, not next to it, but my state does border the Atlantic. Takes >4 hours from where I am to get to though.) So seeing Alaska license plates over here is quite rare. I wonder what brought these people to the opposite side of the US. The best part is that both instances were one where I had a camera. I've attached both instances (which were on video, not on photo; slow shutter speeds and me zooming the camera mean that there's plenty of blur to be had). Cropping is deliberate because of my paranoia with sharing precise location.
