Lighting LOD weirdness

    The lighting LOD distance is too low on some maps. Look at these pictures:

    Note that even at short distances, the shadow detail drops for no good reason...

    We are aware of this.
    It's something with the sun at low angles creating some issues in how the shadows splits are being calculated.
    You will notice that mostly when you have long shadows and the camera facing the opposite direction of the sun

    As of 0.16, this has not been fixed. It seems to depend on the map - it is barely an issue on East Coast, but it is very noticeable on Utah.

    Yes, it's not in the changelog in fact.
    Also if you use low/normal lighting quality setting, this gets more noticeable than high.

    As of version 0.17.1, this bug has not been fixed.

    We know, it's not in the 0.17 changelogs either.
    We have plans to look into that for the next update.

    If it's not mentioned in any changelog, it means we did not get to it yet.
