    is it just me or vulkan on native linux build is utterly unstable and literally will crash your whole pc?...

    its so inconsistent, wednesday i played for 8 hours straight no crash.
    today? 30 min and it utterly borked my whole pc. i couldnt even launch terminal ffs.
    it borked my pc so hard it didnt even create a log this time around.

    BUT!
    i will try to put as much information, but im uncertain if this is two unrelated issues.
    im running linux mint 22.2 with a ryzen 5950x and an RX7900XTX with 32gb of ram.
    every graphics settings is on ultra/highest i can possibly put it. 1080p tho
    now since the update, ive had weird visual artifacts rarely when spawning a vehicle.

    the odd thing is, if i reload the vehicles itll reload properly with fixed textures, but shortly after i took those pictures, the game crashed and it hung my whole system, i rarely can get control of my pc back without restarting at this point.
    BUT!! the log i attached shows a lot of these

    ive never seen ErrorDeviceLost in my life happen before.
    vulkan seems to straight up crash and lose my gpu entirely.

    im not sure if the two crashes ive gotten here are related, but regardless, for me, the native linux build with vulkan is a buggy pos that borks my desktop at any given moment.
    and the most annoying part is how inconsistent it is, i enjoyed no joke, 8 hours straight of 0.38 when it released wednesday, and today i cant even play 30 min without the game shitting itself and borking my whole system.


    This is a critical bug in my opinion.

    I have had quite a similar experience actually. Sometimes I can play for hours with no issue, sometimes it'll basically fully lock up my system and requires a hard restart to recover. Cannot seem to find a consistent pattern, just seems to be vibes based crashing lol.

    Happens to me as well, I was able to fix it by just playing in windowed mode
    Annoying, yes, but you can set whatever DE you're using to automatically hide the panel so the only real annoyance is the top window bar
    And no, borderless won't work as the same thing happens

    these crashes happened to me in windowed mode as well, no difference for me. it crashes regardless.
    i might also be an idiot, i did try borderless.
    ill report again if it does crash in windows mode just to 100% confirm cuz tbh you're making me doubt it now xD

    EDIT!
    it happens in windows mode too! but way less frequent.
    fullscreen barely lasts an hour before crashing.

    Heres a comparison between running beam natively and within proton (with whatever the steam default version of proton is).

    Notice the huge ram difference. With proton the game takes 3 times the amount of ram (ram + swap).

    Besides that all i can report is that the game runs with only half the fps i was used to in windows. Im pointing that tho towards something around the game, as the cpu utilization is halfed as well.

    Either way, good job with the update!

    Never got it working, but a new error in my container setup now. Might still not be related to the actual crash? Default log files seem to cap out at 16 384 bytes, also. I explicitly piped this to a file.

    i couldnt even get in career mode with 32gb of ram using proton, it crashed my system due to maxing out my rams.

    i tried using the native linux build? no joke, wasnt even using 13gb of ram with the traffic spawned.

    the emulation layer of proton really gives it a hard time, its also way slower when loading through proton.

    if/when they fix the vulkan gpu crash bug with the native linux build, its going to be a solid contender. for the most part the native linux build for me has been better, except when i get those "vulkan| Failed to submit to graphics queue [ErrorDeviceLost]" that crashes my whole system

    while dx11 through proton doesnt have those hard system crashes, its way more slow to load and uses more ram.

    Youd have a much better chance getting help if you where to include more information. Such as what distro you are running, the specs of your computer, the log file of the game after it failed to load a map, your hardware usage while its loading and anything else that appears odd. Just a headsup

    Hi, thank you for the report, I'll try to set up a NixOS system during holidays for testing as the number of reports is increasing :) Integrated GPU support is a bit weak on Linux, also I see some "failed to load font" errors in there, are you sure your BeamNG installation is complete and not missing any files?

    Hi, I agree these crashes can be annoying, unfortunately these "ErrorDeviceLost" problems are hard to recreate consistently on our side. Is there a situation when you run into these crashes more often? We'd love to fix this ASAP but first we need a way how to get these errors on our side.

    Hello, the first load of a map might take a long time, please leave BeamNG running for up to half an hour, and if it's still "frozen", try to restart it and load the map again. We are looking into making the first-load experience on Linux faster in close future, thank you for bearing with us and testing the Linux build! :)

    Hey, I'd also ask you for some steps you usually do in-game before you get the ErrorDeviceLost, or if it's completely random?

    Without full logs it's impossible to tell. My guess is you disabled Online Features? Which could explain if all online Steam integration features are disabled by the game (not just cloud).

    The online-features are enabled.
    I just realized the game does not do anything steam-related. Rich presence does not work either. Neither the native binary run via steam nor the proton version. Steam is installed as a flatpak on my system.

    ill spend as much time as needed to help you guys with this issue, trust me i understand how hard it is to re-create it, day of 0.38 release i played no joke 8 hours straight it didnt crash. the next day? barely 30 min and i encountered the graphical glitches mentioned in my post above

    what i was doing?
    ill keep testing until it keeps happening, but since 0.38 im addicted to the new quarry in italy, i always spawn there with the WL-40 and after that i spawn more vehicles and props and start wrecking havok xD
    destroy stuff, repair it all, do it all over again, repeat. just messing with the physics.

    i dont even do anything special really, i just try to play the game.
    and i understand the frustrations with the inconsistency, its very hard to debug when i can play 8 hours no problem, and the next day it crashes within 30 min.
    is there any further ways to debug this game? or extend the logs given? or anything to help have a better idea what happens when it crashes? id love to be able to give more information or logs but its kinda difficult when the only info in the log is ErrorDeviceLost :|

    because im not even doing anything complicated really, ive just been trying to play beamng, not even making content.
    but i wonder if this makes a difference, i always have a dozen unpacked folder constantly installed bc i have random stuff made for vehicles all over the place. sometimes its just an added adjustable final drive ratios for a vehicle that doesnt have it, sometimes its an engine swap i did but never finished. but i dont understand how an unpacked mod in WIP would cause these issues either.

    regardless, ill mess with beamng with absolutely zero unpacked mods today, ill try to get it to crash asap. that being said, the only known way to get it to crash quickly is when trying to go in fullscreen lol.
    its so inconsistent, which makes it all more difficult. its quite the struggle.

    PS: im a decade+ long passionate fan, let me know if theres anything i can do to help, ill do anything to help you guys. i love this game greatly and only want whats best for it.

    ive been spawning a lot of vehicles, it doesnt happen with fewer vehicles, but ill send screenshots as theyre worth a thousand words.

    the first encounter i had, noticed some weird glitched textures.

    after i reload the vehicle, it fixes the visual glitches. i kept playing no problems (for now)

    i spawned another loader,

    it didnt crash yet.
    but from previous crashes, i was curious and went closer to the shiny spots, and afterwards it crashes my whole pc.

    next time it happens, ill investigate closer to see if it crashes again.

    and for further information, this is with zero mods installed, native linux build, 32gb ram 3600mhz ryzen 9 5950x, RX 7900XTX running linux mint 22.2
    game currently pulls 13.7 gb with the game running and everything mentioned in the screenshot above spawned.

    after spawning a lot more vehicles, for some reason, it seems to be primarily happening with the WL-40.

    After checking those points, nothing seems out of the ordinary. Actually, contrary to my prior assumption, I think that only the Proton version is not working correctly.

    I did the following testing:
    1. Launch game w/o launch options via Proton - fails to initialize steam
    2. Launch game w/
      ./BinLinux/BeamNG.drive.x64
      with steam-play-linux - steam initializes but rich presence does not work ie. "playing on gridmap with x", as well as no cloud saves, which is expected
    3. Launch native game w/o launch options added as "Non-Steam-Game" which is basically the same as 2. - also same results but rich presence failing is expected here (meaning it does not get displayed within steam)
    4. Launch native game w/o steam, having steam running - error in console regarding "game is not running in steam flatpak environment"

    Is it just me or does the force feedback feel really bad since the hotfix? I can't tell if it's just me or if there was a regression of some kind
