Hi all, I just bought BeamNG Drive the other day and I absolutely love it!

I think my old gaming rig (nearly 3 years old) might be having a bit of trouble though.
I can run it well at medium settings in 1280x720 windowed, but have to turn pretty
much everything to the lowest settings to get 1920x1080 up to 60fps

    here's my current setup:
    2 x 1GB Ati 5870s - Crossfired
    CPU: i7 930 Bloomfield (overclocked to 4Ghz)
    Motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E, Intel X58, Socket 1366
    Windows 7 64
    9GB DDR3 Ram
    Hard drive: SSD

I get a nice 60-80fps running 1280x720 windowed with these settings:
mesh & texture: high / lighting: normal / shader: low / filtering & AA: off

but to get 60fps in 1920x180 i need to go down to this, which looks a bit pants and has some input lag:
mesh & texture: low / lighting: lowest / shader: lowest / filtering & AA: off

(both tested on dry rock island)

If i wanted to run it at a solid 60fps in 1080 looking a bit nicer - could i get away with sticking something
like a gtx 680 in my existing setup? or is the CPU a bit old too? I'm not quite as flush with cash as I was
a couple of years ago, and i'm happy with my system for most of the other games i play for the moment.
it ran dishonoured and deus ex human revolution pretty nicely. I'm quite pleased it's lasted this long to be honest.

Also, does it use crossfire at the moment?

GTX 680 should do well to give you 60 fps at 1080p on most maps, on medium/low settings. I think your processor is fine; it's just a GPU bottleneck. I had a GTX 580 and I was running most maps at 40-50 fps at 2560x1600 (which is double the pixels of 1080p). At 1080p I was getting close to 60.

Thanks for the quick response! i'll save up and investigate what GPUs i can get then.

And thanks for creating a great game so far. It's great to have a single game that lets you
go off roading, drive on country roads, a racetrack or try and do a loop the loop, as well
as all the mod support and car customisations. I love sliding the Moonhawk around the
    roads of dry rock island.

the GTX 680 is so last gen, get a GTX 770 or a GTX 780 instead.

I'd recommend a 750ti or 760 as they're around $200 but get you good performance and great efficiency.

1080p and 60 fps in Dry Rock Island needs a beast GPU. Before the pre-race update my HD 7950 was enough for 1080p/60 fps in DRI, but now I drop below 45-50 constantly, I don't know what they've done.

If money is an issue or anything get a used amd. I got my 270 for $120 and I have no issues running drive with it.

Why AMD? You can get a good cheap NVIDIA GeForce card.

Really? I sold my 650ti for $100, $20 less than my 270. (Which is more than $20 better than the 650ti.)

I can get 60fps at max settings and a resolution quite a lot larger than 1080p (rendering at 2560x1600) on my Zotac 780, so something like a 680 or a 770 should run fine at 1080p.

EDIT: Actually, that might vary from map to map as I haven't tested it with all of them. If it's very dense with foliage I think it drops to around 40fps at 1600p.

You can pick up great sales on used AMD ever since the mining profitability went down
