I have been experiencing massive lag for a while now. I bought this game in 2015 and loved it for a while until I moved into other games. I saw this as I was scrolling through my steam library and remembered how much I enjoyed the game but I ran it and suddenly started getting massive lag. I used to run it perfectly at a smooth 60 fps. I now get an unstable 7-11 fps. I have tried everything. I restarted the game, my PC. Completely uninstalled the game twice and reinstalled twice, my graphics drivers have been uninstalled and reinstalled and are currently up to date. I have lowest graphics settings on and the fps didn't change much from highest settings.

    Specs:
    GPU: GTX 970
    CPU: i7-4790 3.60 GHz
    Ram: 16 GB

I have similar specs, just the K version of that CPU.

Your CPU is doing strange things there.
Can you please check that your CPU is not overheating and it's still running at 3.60Ghz while playing?

Also, disable the FPS Limiter, you got it activated.

I disabled the FPS Limiter here. I monitored CPU temp and the temp seems to go down when I run and play the game. From around 37-50 Celsius to 30-36 when I run the game. The CPU is also running at a steady 3.6 GHz

DirectX shouldn't cause issue with the CPU.
You can see from the graphs it has some delay.

@OP, from where you checked the Clock Speed.
Use Task Manager, the game performance logger cannot see variations of the CPU speed (ie. it only indicates the stock speed).
Also, still in Task Manager, what's the CPU usage in there?

If you press J, does the FPS goes up or stay low?

It happens to me too. Sometimes, when I start to play, after 2 minutes at much, FPS go from, for example, 30 to 4/5. I Don't know what causes that issue, but happens randomly (And not in other games)
    Cheers ;)

The CPU usage for the game is 5-5.2% And the BeamNgUI App is at around 2-2.5% usage
My mistake on the temp going down. The FPS goes up to around 22-24 when I pause. Here is all the data I took while in-game.
Speccy, Task Manager, and in game statistics.

Two problems I see: your clockspeed is just 800Mhz, which is the lowest power-saving state your processor supports. It should immediately jump to full speed once under load, but yours isn't. Make sure your power setting are set not set to Power Saver, ideally High Performance. Secondly, your uptime is 10 days - that's a long time, and most computers start dealing with erratic behaviour after a long time continuous operation. It's a matter of the continued effects of memory leaks and such. Reboot your PC and it just might fix your issue.

I'm pretty sure BeamNG.drive automatically sets the power plan to high performance when you open it. It changes back when you close it.

If that's Windows 10, the up time doesn't reset if you're using fast start-up.

Uhm, I'm still in the idea that it's something in your configuration blocking the CPU from running at anything higher than 800mhz.
If you google 'i7 4790 800MHZ' there are plenty of results of similar issues.

    Let's test something.
    Get Winrar (trial - http://www.win-rar.com/start.html?&L=11 )
Open it and press ALT+B. It will run a benchmark.
Now check your CPU clock speed? It is still locked at 800mhz? If yes, then it's definitively something in your configuration.
Basically you have been you using CPU only at 1/4 of it's power till today.

I've read around this can be caused by faulty motherboards aswell.

It doesn't seem to be locked at 800MHz, idk. I'm kinda confused at this point.

Not to be defensive, but it's not BeamNG's fault your CPU is running at 800MHz. Most other games aren't nearly as CPU intensive as BeamNG is, and four cores at 800MHz might be enough to not have a detrimental framerate impact on these other games so it's entirely possible you haven't noticed in other games.

Tom's Hardware suggests your motherboard's thermal sensor might be broken - what are your temperatures?

I will say that I'm not sure how CPU intensive the game is but it used to run perfectly. I personally don't think it got that much worse in a single update. My other games, basically all of them are at a smooth 60 fps and beamng used to run at that but it doesn't anymore.... Obviously.. I haven't touched any
Setting in the BIOS nor have I changed any of the power settings until today and yesterday so I'm not sure what changed in that time.

My CPU temp is usually 35-45 Celsius

Can you please do that Winrar thing I described in my previous post so that we can compare with something else?
