Hi all, The next challenge will be our third challenge and will also have some more time for you to join. The theme will be disclosed later but I can ensure you that this one is for all skill levels and has a lot of room for imagination . How to participate? Option #1: Join the Modding for Dummies discord Server and tell the admins that you're joining the challenge and upload the finished mod to the repo with “MFD modding challenge 3 level (level name)” in the subtitle. Then share the link to the dedicated channel when you post it. We will try to help people during this challenge but please keep in mind that we cannot be online 24/7. Option #2: Tell us in this thread that you're joining the challenge and upload the finished mod to the repo with “MFD modding challenge 3 level (level name)” in the subtitle. Then share the link in this thread. When is it? The next challenge will start next monday(1-7-2019) and will end on Saturday 31-8-2019. This means that you have more time to make something The challenge will be announced on the starting date so stay tuned Rules Don't start before the starting date Don't steal Be original No NSFW content Follow rules Criteria The jury will judge the mods by looking for: Mesh detail/skin quality Jbeam quality Configs and their descriptions Creativity Realism Console errors We will give feedback on all entries. The prize Just like last time, the prize will be a custom made Modding For Dummies medal made by @Ai'Torror. This means that you have to share your adress if you win this challenge. We will remove all of your info after we sent it of course, no surprise pizza's from us! Additional notes Since this is the third challenge that we host, we will learn while doing. We listen to feedback(which is why we have two months now) and want feedback from you. Skill level: We do not expect full cars or stuff like that. It should be an entry level modding challenge. We will try to be online often to check on the challenge sub-channels on discord, as well as in this thread and help with any questions. We also don't really want to see a config or a skin, it can be part of the entry but we think that you should be able to create a part or a prop for this game, even if you have no modding experience. In our server we have a few tutorials, the Box tutorial is a good starting point for a very basic part mod. You can also find it here: https://www.beamng.com/threads/tutorial-simple-vehicle-addon-mod.54422/ If you have any questions you can ask them over here or on the MFD discord Server. Good Luck! Summertime! The next Modding for Dummies challenge will have a nice theme for the summer holidays. The theme will be: Water and beaches Go create something original to use on/in the beaches or the water, whether it's a destructible life guard stand, an inflatable hopper or unicorn or a nice beach cruiser, get ready to make something to show off in Italy or Jungle Rock Island! Creativity, cool concepts and well executed mods will be rewarded. Are you new to the challenge? Join and get the Playcar by BLIJo after you submit your entry. For rules and info, check the previous announcement Good luck and have fun! ~the MfD admin team
Brass to be exact. We slightly modified the reward for the next challenge so it will be cut all the way threw, but around 2.5mm deep the head of the mill I used broke off (as it turns out... Cheap mill from some tool set bought in Lidl isn't the best for cutting brass) so the current challenge reward will have to be finished by hand and all other ones will be made with a proper set of mills, also they will be a little thinner from 5ish mm to around 4 mm (I say ish since some material is removed when polishing).
Time to bump this thread a little and ask how the modding is going? Reward is waiting (the bottom one).
Hello everyone! The last challenge ended 2 weeks ago and we finished the reviewing process. It did not take long since we only had a few entries. It may or may not(probably the latter) surprise you but @LJ Dezignz won this challenge! Here is his (featured) entry: https://www.beamng.com/resources/autobello-piccolina-cherry.9600/ I guess we will have to send our second reward to him as well The next challenge will be announced soon. In order to get more participants, we talked about the idea of live-streaming the modding process of an object in BeamNG. I will be doing this and it will be entry-level. We will open a (voice) channel on those evenings so you can ask us questions. We don't know when we are going to do it and what I'm going to make but that will be announced with the next challenge later today We also challenge the devs to come up with something if they like to Link to server for the chats: https://discord.gg/3Fy86de --- Post updated --- So, we settled on a theme, it will be Halloween! You will have time from now until Halloween Rules are the same as last time, submission process as well If you need inspiration, think about trick or threat, graveyards, spooky cars, haunted scenarios or car costumes . Props and stuff are also possible but I guess that a quick google search helps a lot already. I will be livestreaming the creation of a drivable coffin, I will cover everything. From folder structure setup until suspensions I will try to stream every monday from 20:00 CEST and I will also try to explain all little steps I do. So if you don't know how to create a mod, follow the stream! The modding QA's will happen when you guys ask for it, but probably in the afternoon and evening for us(most of the admins are from Europe) I will try to test a lifestream earlier to make sure it works
