    Well, considering that one of their main mantras is "we let you do things with cars that other games won't", and the dev's personal expertise and passion for cars I think it would fit right in with BeamNG. Interestingly enough, the performance models are set up such that fine engine tuning would affect variables that are already in place in some cases. Heck, they could even do it in such a way that you could actually learn how to tune a real car just by playing with it in the game. Not necessarily how to use actual tuning software, but more general things like getting better flow with the correct intake and exhaust combo, tuning boost for best power vs reliability, when to upgrade internals to forged, adding or pulling timing for powerband and reliability, the list would go on and on.

    That would be awesome, as a learning tool/test bench so we wouldnt have to blow up are real cars/trucks trying learn how to tune lol.

    Base set list would be

    Ignition Timing for gas engines and injection timing for diesels

    +Injection duration (injector pulse width /IPW)
    +Mass fuel desired
    +Rail pressure (for newer direct injection gas engines/diesels
    +MAF
    +Boost (PSI)
    +EBP
    +Base Fuel pressure
    +injector size
    +AIT
    +EGT
    +Knock
    +AFR (Gas)
    +Cam profile/valve lift
    +Compression
    etc etc

    If this tuning concept part of engine simulation, ever gets implemented BeamNG would be so in depth it would be "the go to" program for virtual tuning/engine simulation.

    I have over 400+ hours on automation just trying different set ups/ building diffrent engines and that's a dumbed down version of this list

    Just look at the new turbo simulation, once I got a home of that I was hooked lol.

    Do you know how long that would take to code into the game....

    Yes, a very long time but if it was done, just a basic engine "tuning" aspect would atract a whole new audience to BNG, just because there is nothing out there like it.

    Just look at it this way when beamng first started, nobody knew that we would ever have turbo simulation, the new suspension tuning and the whole other features that was added over the past 3 years. Will engine tuning ever be added in? We don't know. Could it be done? Yes, with time.

    This is only a idea.

    I understand about the idea of it, I wish Automation would allow engines from that game to be implemented into BeamNG....

    Actually we did have a automation2beam engine converter but its currently broken and only works with older versions (before the experimental version days.)

    It was very useful,the authur posted awhile back stating he working on getting it updated to work with the newer versions of BNG.

    I know about that mod, it would be funny seeing a quad turbo 21.6L V16 engine in Beam imagine the torque and horsepower, what gearbox would stand up to that!

    I could imagine you would need an unobtainium gearbox to take the power...considering it will be likely touching 10,000bhp!

    Even though its not true its the EXHAUST It doesnt effect the engine

    i am a lil bit late to the party but i wanted to TL;DR it in case anyone is still not clear about it:

    Clean air getting faster into the engine = more horsepower
    Exhaust air leaving faster the engine = More space for air to get in later
    More space for air to get in later = more clean air inside the engine

    Shorter exhausts with no catalizers and mufflers to restrict airflow = more efficient burns = more horsepower.

    Or did you meant INGAME the exhaust has no change on the horsepower of the car? In that case you are correct.

    This is a massively bumped thread... but I really need to clear up some air on this.

    If you ripped off an exhaust all the way to the headers/exhaust manifold, you would actually lose power... not gain it.

    The best type of exhaust you can have for your engine to make maximum power is an equal length header into high flow cats (if it is fuel injected and has the stock O2 sensor) an x pipe or y pipe (if it is an engine with 2 banks) and then straight out the back or side(s) of the car with as few turns as possible (adding or taking out parts in there depending on your particular car). As long as the exhaust is sized in such a way that the pulse velocity stays roughly 130mph this setup should attain you maximum torque and power for your engine.

    This is because a setup like this take into effect the best of the best to maximize exhaust scavenging. The headers themselves are where the setup for the exhaust scavenging takes place, and the collector is where it happens, but without extra pipe there to elongate the process, the entire effect is lost.

    Rip that entire system off and you will actually lose power because there is no exhaust scavenging to help "pull" the exhaust out of each cylinder. The only way you would gain anything is if the system on your car was SO restrictive and SO badly designed that it made no attempt to line up the exhaust pulses for exhaust scavenging and it was a diameter so small that the engine would be choking out halfway through its rev range or so big that the exhaust never reaches a high enough velocity to help the scavenging take place.

    Now... depending on the car... if you did nothing but pull the "muffler" off and not the entire exhaust system, yes, you would most likely pick up a little power because you are losing restriction and the rest of the system is still in place to take care of the exhaust scavenging even if it is an unoptimized factory system.

    You are correct. Its the same principle with having blowback of the intake when the intake valves close making a simulation of a forced induction for the next time the intake is open. However its an extreme "what if" cases of most exotic cars. Most street cars only care about saving price and lowering volume and dont bother with scavenging using pressure differences or venturi or harmonics or anything that might benefit from different odd designs.

    As far as beamng goes, I am sure it can be implemented, but once again
    4.5 = special exhaust slots (name)
    5.5 = special exhaust slots (name)
    the reason for this is that the base curve would be adjusted by the exhaust
    but for this to really be useful we need the+10 to torque curve coding
    currently we just have

    supercharger power
    turbo power
    no2 power
    and NA power

    still independant slots per engine is the best bet unless they just keep it simple, either way I don't know why they would do it

    WOW! I am literally stunned on the lack of actual facts on this thread....... YES it does effect the power. completly removing ALL of the exhaust does effect Beamng's "Torque" spec...

    The lack of facts is more than likely due to this thread being older and beamng not having said feature. I still want to post this for future reference if somebody is to need it...

    EX.
    "mainEngine":{
    "torqueModExhaust":[
    ["rpm", "torque"],
    [0, 0],
    [1000, -6],
    [2000, -8],
    [3000, -10],
    [4000, -14],
    [5000, -16],
    [6000, -15],
    [7000, -13],
    [8000, -10],
    ],
    },
    },

    by removing the exhaust completely you remove this negative torque... in turn you gain those numbers back....
    I hope this helps..

    Well... as you stated yourself... this thread was from before the feature even existed in the game. Threads like this become outdated as their information is no longer relevant when features are added to the game (thus that prompt you got and had to agree to before you posted here at the bottom of the page). So like some features in the game that become outdated, so do these threads... so that's why some are better left in the past. This would have been a good example of that.

    I usually dont mind reviving old threads but the smug attitude of yours forgot this thread was not only from before the feature was implemented but also before it was even rumored, and before the exhaust changed the sound of the engine. The code you just copied and pasted to show off how we know no facts didn't exist back then and your assumption that it wasn't there when the first post was made is correct.
