The thing is, 2015 and probably payback were like the kind of thing that will deliver amazing customization for a few cars, but crappy for others. The game doesn't have personality.

I guess you could say Forza does the same thing, but Forza is an actual good game, and does not claim to deliver Groundbreaking Customization.

Oh...okay, well, that's good to know. But I can't possibly imagine what will happen to the driving-game community when this is fully released (please note: It may take a while...but When It's Ready....)

Need For Speed's development over the years is sounding WAAAAY too much like Fast and Furious's development....a series which once was about street racing, drifting, and car customization, to something about "taking down crime through blowing up stuff (even hospitals) while likely killing thousands along the way, just for a hypercar or two that likely won't be as exciting to drive as a Pigeon ever will".

EDIT: For those of you police fans, I hope that you get your good police that you were ridden of in 2015. Next to the NFS15 police, the BeamNG police are like Ayrton Senna's spiritual descendants, as they can actually locate you in a map (compared to the seemingly drunk NFS15 cops).

Need For Speed wasn't about street racing and tuning when it started, NFS 1 & 2 were more about realism. I don't know why so many people don't realise that NFS wasn't always about tuning...

But EA wants to make money so of course they try to emulate the style of the most successful games. I actually prefer Shift and Shift 2 over something like Underground because I couldn't care less about the tuning.....

Wait...could NFS have been the forgotten prelude to BeamNG? And I thought that (because of the Undergrounds) NFS was all about customization...

I've just seen some customization gameplay and I've to say. It's nfs 2015 with different colors.. The menu is 1:1 the same. The customization is hideous "focus on customization" my a$$
If you think that 5 bumper options for a car is deep customization, then please get out.
The game dosent convince me what so ever. My only hope is that the handling model has been reworked. So far tho the game is basically a pile of junk.
My hype train stopped rapidly.. And ghost games. Sry but you died for me...

I just got my NFS Undercover to run on Windows 7, EA wouldn't even update the Steam version. Left all us x64 users to rot. So no more EA games for me. I love undercover though, it's awesome. I just wish they'd make their games more like that one, it was fun racing about an open world and doing much of nothing, attracting the cops and having a demo derby with a car that didn't even dent. There was just something about it that was quite fun, even if you always spin if the AI so much as farts near you.
New NFS games, no thanks, I tried the new Hot Pursuit and it was absolute rubberband-AI rubbish. NO TY. Their AI sucks in games as of late. Burnout Paradise was really good though.

Needless to say I am busy learning Sketchup so I can make some of my own models, and have to get back to it, just thought I'd chime in here, hope I didn't derail this too much. I have a city to go make, for us, for BeamNG, because BEAM is BETTER.

They even said the player should feel like a hero while driving... That's most likely a bad sign for the handling if you ask me. In the gameplay demo the player was able to ram cars off the street like they were made out of cardboard. The drift camera still exists and everytime you ram someone into something you get a drawn out scene of their bad collision model like some sort of a poorman's Burnout.

WHY??? Please don't say that the heroic driving engine returns.

    --- Post updated ---
Doesn't Beam and GTA V/SA have better customization than a game "Made for Customization". Again though, I'm 99% sure that the car brands are giving them BS. (NFS HP2 had no NFS Edition BMW's because BMW didn't want their cars customized). On the other hand, I don't expect the Gavril CEO to be knocking on Beam's front door because they didn't want a ram plow on the T series.

I liked better the 'Underground 1/2, Carbon and MW' era.
This super-imposed story elements, and the game turning into a mix of F&F and Burnout, with simplified driving and 'one-button' drift does not appeal me.

They are probably targeting a different audience than the old NFS players.

It was good with HP, which for some reason felt like a burnout successor, not that that's a bad thing. The best era was 1-HP2. That was the actual NFS. Supercars, Tracks, Cops, what more could you ask. 50 Veyrons in rivals wasn't as scary as that one Lamborghini cop in NFSIII. Also, I miss the Split-Screen.

Looking at the customization video, I can't possibly imagine why I'd pick Need For Savings PayusBackfornotbuyingourpreviousgames over BeamNG.over9000ratedmodifying, where car customization is just....galaxy-blowing. I respect where EA/Ghost were going with the customization (the Beetle seemed to have quite a few options to go with), but I fear that this sort of customization will only be available on a few specific cars, leaving the rest to be subject to basic slammed tunes and hot-pink wraps. We'll see where this goes, but looking at NFS 2015's spread of customization doesn't give me much hope at all.

So, if the Beetle is the most customizable vehicle in the game (it likely is), let's compare the options that have been shown to the D-Series's options:

    Beetle:
    *3 "hoods" (it's actually a frunk)
    *7 front bumpers
    *8 headlight designs
    *4 splitters
    *4 "superbuild" configurations
    *6 front fender options
    *6 sideskirts
    *4 rear bumpers
*(likely) Hundreds of rims that all look rather similar
    *4 "trunks" (engine covers)
*The ability to stance your car
*No word yet on engine or drivetrain customization

    D-Series:
    *3 cabs
*2 styles of rear fender flares
    *6 frames
*Dozens of wheels to choose from
    *3 transfer cases
    *24 standard configurations
    *2 beds
*4 bed accessories for the short bed
*3 bed accessories for the flatbed
*Several tiny (and realistic) pieces, such as trim, brake pads, a bug shield, spare tires, badging, bullbars, spotlights, police lights, several paint designs, and much, MUCH more
    *3 engines
*4 stages of tune for the V8s
    *3 transmissions
*The ability to strip your vehicle to the bare frame
    *3 front bumpers
    *3 rear bumpers
*Several options on suspension, with everything from sporty to heavy-duty to Baja-ready.
*Several differentials, including locking diffs for rock-crawling

This is all in the STANDARD GAME. Add modding in, and I don't even know where the D-Series could go.

In comparison to the Beetle (which likely will be interesting to mostly classic-car fans) the D-Series fills in MANY roles in the BeamNG community besides being a good truck.

*It can impress racers (like me), with the V8 Sport AWD accelerating to 60 mph at a Bolide 390 GTR-matching 4.6 seconds and handling stupendously well for a truck.
*It can impress police fans (like Fera), with its standard police options and realistic Border Patrol configuration.
*It can be a great rock-crawling car, with the D35 Pig being one of the best off-roaders that isn't a Hopper.
*It can be a good hauling vehicle for even the biggest of trailers, with the D35 V8 RWD being able to haul loads 3-4 times heavier than it.
*It's a fantastic demo-derby champ, with its 4WD variants being absolute terrors to almost any other car in the game. Strength, durability, a decent amount of weight and power, and that AWD-like launch just make for a versatile demo-derby car that also is quite fun to drive.
*It's probably the most all-rounded car in the roster.

In the end, while Need For Speed Payback looks slightly more impressive in customization, in my opinion, it just won't come anywhere near BeamNG, a game that doesn't even advertise "ground-breaking customization" (even though it does have it). I'm not interested in changing out bumpers, headlights, and such on the daily, but transmissions, transfer cases, and diffs? Oh, yes, please...

I think more so the ones that say 'I'm the best race car driver ever' then get 8th place on the old NFS arcade game....

I love when that happens, then I come in, stick it to manual mode, and get a speed record...

God this looks awful. The handling seems crap, even more shitty than in the 2015 one, The IA seems annoying and dumb,
    Missions seems just as stupid.
And the truck, wtf, 160 km/h drifting into corners.

What truly disturbs me about this whole thing is that the characters are wreaking more havoc than I've ever seen in any GTA mission that I've watched on Youtube...just for a $2 million hypercar that likely wouldn't drive away from the explosion.

Also, last time I checked, trucks couldn't even reach 100 mph (160 km/h) with a trailer on them, let alone drift without tipping over at that speed....ermahgerd, this game is barely even attached to reality...

IMHO, I hate how people compare Beam to other games. We get Good graphics, Good sounds, Good gameplay, And ACTUAL Racings in other games. Beam is not a game, more of a simulator.

I wanted to press that agree, but I chose to go awesome, because that is a true quality post

--On topic-- After playing BeamNG, no driving/racing game feels the same. Of course, BeamNG lacks a little graphics wise, but physics just destroy any other game.
I kind of like Forza games (especially FH for open world) because of HUGE car choice and fancy graphics and sounds, but then again I feel like I'm being forgiven for too much(as in all other similar games) - hug a wall at 90kmph, bump other cars and continue driving with just a scratched bumper.

That's where BeamNG shines - one bigger mistake and you are out for good. If not completely out, then with no steering or three wheels(not talking about Pigeon) The actual cars in BeamNG look top-shelf, just the other graphics things that look a little dated.

And then there is the price - BeamNG is about 23€ when not on sale - and for that price I get all current content, frequent future updates and great support. If there are new cars coming - from German marvels of engineering to American oversized boats - I get them for free. No need to pay half of what the game originally costs for 10 new shiny cars or two gorgeous maps.

    Tl;dr I won't buy Need For Speed - Payback
