I am trying to SLI 2 GTX 285's that are the exact same cards but in Nvidia control panel I only get the option for PhysX.

    - Yes my EVGA P55 FTW SLi is an SLI board
    - Yes I have the cards in the right slots
    - yes I am using an SLI cable
    - yes device manager sees them both
    - yes I installed the driver after SLI ing them

A stupid question: are these cards from the same manufacturer? I think SLI is more picky than AMD Crossfire.
Since it's quite an old card, is it fully supported by Windows 10 (if that's the OS you're using)? Have you tried the SLI on Windows 7?
Maybe the latest nvidia drivers aren't completely compatible with those cards; try to install some older version of them.

Try those drivers for Windows 10 x64. This driver is the latest that officially supports that card on Windows 10. Also, multi-GPU is generally more of a pain than it is worth, especially on older cards.

I realized that I had put the second card in the 4x slot
