Any map where I can max out my cars speedo and still have 10+ miles to go is an awesome map. Can't wait!
Due to a security breach in a Cities: Skylines II mod, as a precaution, I will not be uploading the mod file until or after November 29th. If I post any suspicious links or files, do NOT click or download them.
So I loaded up the map today and everything disappeared... No, this isn't low render distance. I have no idea how this happened. So, unfortunately, I'm gonna cancel this. If anyone would like to continue it, I will post the road mesh and the heightmap I used, because that's all I have left from this. If no one does, I might come back to this in the future. On the bright side, I've learned quite a bit doing this, so perhaps I may start something new someday. Also, regarding the Cities: Skylines II breach, that targeted Exodus Wallet, which I don't have, so I was unaffected and it should be safe to download or click anything I post.
That is terrible! I would encourage you to come back to this or a similar project when you feel ready, and remember to make plenty of backups this time and avoid using the half-baked Road Architect tool, as it will be much appreciated by the community - there are very few similar maps that are either set in the Great Plains or have realistic long highways (even in the largest freeroam maps like Los Injurus the interstates are unrealistically contorted to pack the greatest amount of road into a relatively small (by real-world standards) map.) I can completely understand Bob Blunderton's frustration with the dev team when it comes to the world editor; you'd think that EIGHT YEARS would be enough time to write some up-to-date official documentation, and it's not like doing so involves debugging code.
damn bro that sucks man i hope maybe it can get fixed at some point in the future but thats just like not cool on beamng's part for deleting it (idk if it was actually beams fault idk if you were making inside of a beam map maker or not feel free to correct me)
How many kilometres on each side would the completed map have been? If I have enough free time, I might continue this myself, either with the provided road mesh or by populating the heightmap from scratch as a fictional region. If you don't hear anything by January it is safe to assume that I am not going ahead with this, and if you change your mind before then and decide you want to try making the original map again, just let me know.
It wasn't going to be a square, but rather just all the roads and their nearby terrain, so I can't quite give exact dimensions, but I can give an image of what the map would have been. Quite ambitious for a first map, but if I do it in normal map sized sections, it's just making a bunch of maps.
How did you manage to import the heightmap you attached into the world editor when it's not a power of 2 in dimension? The map I've most wanted in BeamNG, and will be creating at some point if I have the free time, is a large map for long cruising drives based on the American Great Plains, like this one would have been. If my plan does come to fruition, my map will be at least 10 kilometres on each side, not based on any real area, and encompass different "states" based on Midwestern ones with distinct biomes, but will intentionally go for length over completeness and focus on only a few main roads rather than aiming to fill the entire area with content.
Sorry for the late reply, but I believe the image only has to be square. It let me import it, but if it doesn't work for you, you could edit its size in GIMP.
if you read the post you'd see that he ws giving the .dae because he cancelled the mod after all the textures stopped loading, this has been dead for months now, stop bumping.
sorry to bump the thread, saw people were posting so came back, downloaded it, for me all i see is a small section of the highway roads, im not going to do anything to it. But i will keep the file just in case i get better at modeling someday
I forgot about this thread, but I actually started work on a highway map again. Not this, though. It's gonna be a fictional highway starting in Maine. I'm not sure where it will end, but I plan to progressively add states, and maybe even cross the border with it. It's been slow progress, but progress nonetheless. I'm gonna keep this thread as cancelled though until I have significant progress. There are some weird artifacts on the edge of the road you can see, those are the decal roads and I'm not too sure how to fix that.
Excellent! I was hoping you'd come back to a similar project in the end. If you haven't already done much, I would suggest maybe starting in the Great Plains and expanding both west and east instead of in a Maine-inspired setting, as the lack of Middle America content was what made me so excited for Oklahoma Interstate, whereas there are already several maps with desert and forested highways.
