And it goes deeper! Here's a picture of almost all of the unused assets in gridmap's files! --- Post updated --- That's not all. There's an unused Utah bush and a full set of Utah rocks in the td1 gridmap files, as seen in the image above!.
A music folder exists in 0.3, which seems to have the music used for the recently added "radiotest" UI app. This is that file There also seems to be an unused turret firing sound as well. It does sound similar to the D15 technical's firing sound. Maybe that mod used this? (if the website allowed non-mp4 audio formats I would upload it here)
I never knew about the radiotest app! cool! --- Post updated --- Wasnt that the main menu music or the credits or something?
No, at least not the current one. the current credits use different music. The credits during 0.3 was on the main menu, with no music playing. The old-ish credits from before might have had it(no idea if they did), but certainly not the really old versions.
because that is 101% the best way to make the techdemo work like the normal game from its time --- Post updated --- Here's a comparison of 0.3 and 0.4 on High settings:
Here's a comparison of 0.3 and 0.4 on High settings: Currently the credits music is lonle.ogg, and as stated before 0.3 credits was just a button you could push to move to the sign with the credits on it, with absolutely no extra sound whatsoever! --- Post updated --- I just found this out: the .dts files actually did something (they dont anymore but they used to)! There are 4 rocks in Gridmap's files that are stored as .dts instead of .dae! Here's what they look like (boulder, rock1, rock2, and rock3 from left to right): --- Post updated --- They also have no collisions:
This is why I like the old lighting in BeamNG. It had character, or personality, as @KrukasKlep would put it. Yes, I know it’s way more realistic now, but it lost its character in the process.
It's a lot less vibrant now! The palette is much more bland, the skies also suck now (you can barely see the clouds!) and the fact that there's no proper way to get 0.3 versions just sucks from an archivist's perspective!
I found a download for 0.3.8.0 (one of the versions I'm interested in) but the top comments mention a Trojan and it's a Russian site, so... I'll pass.
Alright, I have some news on my quest to find one of the older versions of BeamNG I'm interested. 0.3.8.1 is on the radar now, it's got the original vehicle selector (that is, the first iteration with thumbnails) and some elements of 0.4 as well I'm aware of the torrent on Internet Archive, not bothering with it because its security seems a bit questionable (it's literally a torrent) If I can I will modify it to suit my desires a bit more (disable the updated UI by finangling with the code a bit so I can have the old gray dashboard and all that fun stuff (finangling is a fun word to say, couldn't resist))
