The Pamir Highway is a trans national highway that is located around the Pamir mountains in central asia, leading through the countries of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. It leads through an area that is considered "roof of the world", with its highest point reaching 4655 meters above sea level. This map is loosely based on places along this road. Though most of it could be anywhere in post soviet central Asia. Map size: What I think this game lacks is larger maps that allow for longer road trips and actually having a surrounding that just feels vast. My goal with this map is to find a balance between map size, performance and terrain details. The game only allows for 4k terrains, thats why the largest vanilla maps are 4x4km. I made this one 12x12km which is, at least in my opinion, the largest size possible withouth having significant losses in the terrain details. It can be noticed but is still tolerable. Any larger than that and the losses just become too obvious. Although 12x12km is still not large compared to real places, it works within the limitations of the game and gives room for longer roads and simply more landscape. Places: Most of the map consists, as the name suggests, of highways that connect the different areas. There will be a town and some villages, a lake, lots of grass steppe and alpine highlands. Spoiler: Screenshots Spoiler: More screenshots I will keep record of the progress in this thread and will release a wip version when the main roads and areas are finished. Please give me feedback and criticism, I want to improve with this. Is anyone even interested in these remote corners of the world as I am? Let me know what you think! Main paved Highwayloop is finished. Mostly straight road with just very few corners. Length of the main loop is 23km. Its goes through some valleys and makes a huge turn around the lake. I am very happy with the way the background mountains turned out. They are just on the edge of the visibility range of BeamNG, which is about 10-12km I think. So all of the mountains are visible from within the borders of the map. Some references of the real place somewhere in Kyrgyzstan: I think the map doesn´t look too bad in comparison, what do you think?
"not too bad in comparison" Dude, the map looks better than real life, it truly looks wonderful. You really matched the textures, awesome work!!!
Been working a bit on the main town. Some references I draw inspiration from It kind of works with the limited assets I have available (which are mostly from sketchfab) Although I would like the map to be more detailled, I have to find a compromise between map size (which is 12x12km) and level of details and still maintaining a healthy level of fps. If its possible I aim to make the map as fps friendly as possible. Most models are rather low poly to save fps. If anyone has suggestions for this map, please post them here!
True. I might get into that later but for now I just want to build the map. Ground textures etc are from the vanilla game and should be pbr I think, its just the custom buildigns that lack.
