    hey lads!

just packed the work i did.

    there you go: https://mega.nz/#!NCY2TIYS!mqIueb90FYbWwDiBRFwNpORV8yDJz1nWLhsHgbpoKns

in order to work you'll need this :https://www.beamng.com/resources/cp100s-fmod-soundpack.2838/
(i didn't include it cuz i don't wanna be in trouble with CP's files in my rar.

what's in my mod (1st link)?
-better sounds (sound config ident changed)
-higher rev limit (real thing goes to 7K, not 6.2K)
    - also vanilla file says it's a 1.9L engine but since there's no turbo it can only be the 1.6L 115HP variant. I mean don't worry it's just a description change, not the performance ;-)

enjoy the change, really makes it feel 200% better with these sounds.

The mod has been updated to 0.5. As always, download is in the OP! Skin sample is also available in the OP.

    Changes in 0.5:

    General:
    • Better texture compression decreasing the zipped mod file size by 8MB!
    Visual:
    • Exterior can now be skinned! Make sure to read the readme file as there are a couple of minor quirks you need to know before starting.
    • Phase 2 seat texture replaced with phase 1 textures.
    • Phase 1 lights added (fully working with glowmaps) with option to switch to phase 1.5 lights.
    • Improvements to interior including smoothing group fixes and general texture quality, textures are more accurate to the phase 1 configuration.
    • Improvements to exterior textures. Car paint is no longer bumpy, slightly improved windscreen damage (this will be further changed in later updates)
    • Front windscreen is slightly less spiky on deformation.
    • Added front and rear screen wipers (non-functional for the time being).
    • Rear view mirrors now function correctly.

    JBeam:
    • Passenger seats can be removed.
    • Side trim can be removed.
    • Vehicle weight decreased to more accurately match its IRL counterpart.
    • Tyre grip increased further.

Sounds great! My only qualm is the bit I quoted above. From my research I could only find references claiming the 8v 1.9L being naturally aspirated. Where did you read that it's turbo charged?

    https://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=36894

"The 4 cylinder, single overhead camshaft naturally aspirated engine has 2 valves per cylinder and a capacity of 1.9 litres." - from the linked site

Also, the torque curve is defined to try and match the 8v 1.9L variant more than the 1.6L, as it will reach ~130bhp at 6000rpm

That might be the case for the 1.6L and 16v 1.9L but I'm not so sure about the 8v 1.9L. Admittedly I couldn't find much info on the rev limit, only posts from the 205gtidrivers forum https://www.205gtidrivers.com/forums/topic/78326-rev-limiter/

I think i understood. Actually i mixed my knowledge across the 309 as well as the 405. ALL ENGINES OF THE 205 GTI WERE NA. the only difference being :
1580cc (XU5JA) the other variant XU5J was just this same engine with lower injection settings and it did 105hp
    -DOHC 16V
    -115HP @ 6.2K rpm
    -BOSCH LE2 JETRONIC fuel injection
    -NA

also found on the 309 and 405 upon SR trim level but with carburetor and other parts being different

    1905cc (XU9JA)
    -SOHC 8V
    -aluminum block
    -NA
    -130hp @ 6k rpm
    same fuel injection as XU5JA

common on high performance trim levels (405mi16,etc)

    1905cc (XU9JAL)
    -DOHC 16V
    -same aluminum block
    -NA
    -122hp
-BOSCH MOtronic fuel injection (not a good part imo)

I found out on french forums and as well with my dad's experience (he raced those in the 90s) that the dohc ones will rev high, but that there's no exact number: in fact some people got them to 7K while others didn't. I guess it may be due to the electronics; back then those were particular to say the least, and none of them performed the same.

This has come really far since the last time I tested it (which I believe was 0.2). Amazing work mate :D

    Just some things I noticed:

    Issues:
    • There doesn't seem to be any interior muffling, it sounds the same inside as it does outside.
    • Engine sounds the same with and without the exhaust/muffler
    • Adjusting rear camber to negative creates positive camber (and vica versa)

    Opinions:
    • It seems to want to stay in 1st gear for ages before it upshifts (when driving like a yobbo and using 100% throttle), can this be changed?

Thanks for the feedback. I've been playing around with the low end torque values and adjusted 1st gear to a more realistic ratio. This makes it possible to launch from 1st without wheel spin and thus bouncing off the limiter for eternity.

Based on my research my torque curve isn't exactly accurate to the real thing; the real car apparently outputs 155Nm @ 2500rpm, where as I have it at 130Nm. I tried to replicate this in-game but you just end up with horrendous wheel spin at launch. I don't think I can get away with increasing tyre grip anymore as oversteer is starting to become harder to control, and soon the road tyres will be competing with racing slicks.

    Figures for the XU9JA:

last update added cool stuff. However, i felt the back end was way too snappy. So i ended up modding the wheels file so that it drives a bit more like a "parallélépipède rectangle" as we say in french. I'll post it asap. Now it meant with only the back wheels having sport tyres it would still hold on a turn at 140kph, instead of the 80 stock.

I did encounter an issue though. When i used sport wheels at the front, the car would flip over. I think we need a stiffer strut bar or something. Not a big deal though...

for now sounds ok, but for now the best sound for car is the official (new) I4 sound with sport exhaust

    Briliant mod!
    suggestions (probably mentioned earlier)

    - would love to see newer engine sounds
    - snap oversteers way to bad so maybe suspenion work?
other than that, so excited to see a decent french mod in the game!!

The mod has been updated to 0.6. As always, download is in the OP.

Some information: This update reduces oversteer and I may have gone a bit far in doing so. If you find it's too understeery, let me know. You can remedy it somewhat by making front camber more negative and increasing front toe in using the tuning menu.

    Changes in 0.6:

    JBeam:
    • Engine torque values more realistic
    • Gear and final drive ratios set to accurate values
    • Added powertrain inertia to mitigate launch wheelspin with arcade and 'realistic' gearbox control settings
    • Added dedicated flywheel part to powertrain
    • Weight redistributed further to the front of the car
    • Reverted tyre friction coefficients to more realistic values
    • Fixed rear camber setting and changed default setup to a more neutral setup. Note: If you want more oversteer, decrease front camber and increase front toe in. Sports tyres are recommended for improved grip.
    Audio:
    • Added exhaust sound
    • Added interior muffling

Uh after some laps on the ring, I got to find something else: brakes are bad!

Do you know if we'll get aftermarket brakes? stock ones make my laps slower, and are the only limit to the handling. the fade comes after about 15km of spirited driving, and is quite scary. it always happen in a low speed corner after a long straight line.

engine is better now, but i'm still happier with my own tyres settings. (similar to current sport tyres results like with michelin cup 2 or something) gearbox seems better too.

    keep the good work! ;-)

also we speaked about aftermarket upgrades earlier on, so i found you more info about stock mods you could get from the factory:
