Honestly I used to not really like dogs. I thought they were annoying, threatening, and dangerous. Nearly all of my neighbors had dogs, they all barked, showed there teeth, and wouldn't let you pet them or even get close to them. They barked at me when I was in my own back yard. Looking back now I realized that there owners didn't enforce any discipline or socialize there dogs, so there dogs acted like wild animals, and would try to bite everyone except their owner. So naturally from an early age I started to hate and fear dogs. That would soon change tho. When I was about 5 or 6 I was just sitting in the living room on a nice Saturday morning just like any other day when all of a sudden a Siberian Husky came running into the room and eagerly greeted me by licking my face. I was like WHAT THE and quickly backed away. I had no clue what kind of dog he was, all I could tell was that he looked like a wolf and probable thought I tasted good. So I naturally started running but of course the dog thought I was playing so he ran after me. Eventually my mom stopped us both and properly introduced me to Baxter (always hated that name). Apparently some friends of my mom were moving and could not take Baxter with them. We were his last chance or else he would be put into a pond. Baxter was a Siberian Husky around 2 years old when we got him, although he was still young he was big and muscular and very energetic. So things were kind of awkward for the first few days, I was still kind of scared of Baxter so I tried to avoid him. But since I was the only one in the family who he had not really been able to spend much time with, he really wanted to play with me. Eventually I started to get used to him and would play with him and let him follow me. We soon became good friends and I would train him not to jump on me and other things like that. Well the years went by, and the years turned into a decade. I was now a teenager and enjoyed taking Baxter (although I now called him Husky ) on long walks through the woods and around town. Many of my family members also had dogs who were all kind and obedient, my attitude of dogs had completely changed, although now to this day there is a new generation of very annoying neighborhood dogs. Well the years kept on coming and going and of course the inevitable was on the horizon. In 2009 Husky was starting to slow down, he had some joint problems which meant no more long walks, now he was more of a cozy lap dog. In the following years things started getting worse, more trips to the vet, less walks, less of the once energetic dog I knew for most of my life. By early 2012 it was clear that his time was almost over, and to make a long story short he passed on April 23, 2012. He left at a very hard time in my life, I was already depressed about other things so his death just make things even more sad. I know the whole point of this thread is to show pictures of our pets but unfortunately the only pictures of Husky I have on this computer have me in them, I'll see if I can find a picture that has just him in it. Anyways several years have passed since then and I now feel like I'm ready for a new dog. Unfortunately thats were the insult to injury part seems to happen. I would love to get another Siberian Husky, I know it may seem kind of close minded to just want to get one breed of dog but I really love Huskys. I would also like to adopt an adult dog instead of getting a puppy, I know there are pros and cons to both but having to spend the time teaching a puppy everything from potty training to basic commands might be a little more than I want to handle right now. I looked into 2 local Siberian Husky rescue groups, they had a large selection of beautiful and supposedly well trained good tempered Huskys. Unfortunately I had a look at the requirements (which there were literally about 30 some requirements) and found a few I might not be able to meet, first off all potential adopters must have previous ownership experience. Most of my life was spent with a Husky although I played a huge part in the training and care of him he was technically not my dog he was my parents dog. Another requirement was a large fenced back yard with at least 6ft high fencing. We do have 6ft high fencing but it is only around part of our yard (still plenty big for a dog to do his business and to run around a little in) but still not the whole yard. So the Husky rescue place might not be an option, so I check with my local Humane Society, there was an application to fill out so I took a look and was like HOLY TAP DANCING CHRIST!! there must have been like 200 questions! I looked through it and didn't even attempt to fill it out. Some of the questions were just plain weird and they want to do a home inspection and a background check! Damn everyone is always talking about how important animal adoption is but unless they make the adoption process a lot smoother many people are going to just take the easy road and buy a puppy. Now I know I probable sound a little lazy and unwilling at the moment but damn so much paper work . I have gotten some advice from friends, they suggested going to an Adopt-a-thon event and talking to someone in person instead of just filling out a form online. Also someone recommended going when the shelter is overflowing with dogs, because if they don't have room for more pets then they will feel more pressured and willing to let some be adopted. Also going to a kill shelter has been suggested, although its unlikely I will find a husky in one, apparently kill shelters have good dogs and because its either adoption of death, there are fewer requirements for adoption. Of course there always just buying a puppy but like I said before that will likely take more time than training and adult dog. wow, much words. Oh yea and also I agree with the above poster, larger dogs are great, sure they don't live as long but they usually bark less and are more fun to play with. and you can go on LONG walks with larger dogs like Huskys if your into that kind of thing. So if anyone on here has any suggestions on were to go or what to do please let me know. I will dig thorough some files and find a good pic of Husky. Oh 500th Post!
and a hell of a 500th it is!!! I have 2 pups, Yankee Doodle Man (or just Yanks) and Jack Jack. Yanks is a Newfoundland/Brown Lab Mix (mostly Newfie) and Jack Jack is a Leonberger. ill get some pix and post em when I get the hell outta this god forsaken place (ehhhemm...work)

i have a black cat called simpkin (named after the beatrix potter series, i loved those books when i was small) he is the best little prince ever, he hates most strangers and he loves anybody he knows. he likes to lie in the mos awcward spot on the bed, but overall he is the best cat out of all the cats. he once brought in a rotting corpse of a dead rat in the hallway, blood all up the wall, its head secapitated. i also have a dog called joby, i am still getting to know him at the moment but he is amazing, he could not care lees about the cat . and finally i have 4 ex battery hens: jemima, abbigale hadley (7 year old sister named her) and hazel who is mine) we rescued them because if we didnt they would be turned into dog food, which they almost did yesterday because of the dog. all my pets are rescue animals, the dog was unwanted and same with the cat. and the chickens were retired, but they give us 4 eggs per day which is great.
