I often wonder why people don't try to back up hills in fwd cars in the snow. Seems like it would help. But yeah, ABS doesn't do shit on snow in the first place, idk why you'd disable it. Forgot to put go slower because of increased stopping distances there. Whoops. It's quite interesting to watch pileups on interstates because people are driving to fast in snow. This one gets really brutal at about 3:30
Same reason you pull away in 2nd gear. Reverse gear typically has the same ratio as 1st or sometimes even lower. Too much wheel torque, makes it too easy to break traction. 2nd gear has less torque at the wheel but plenty to pull away with, far safer on snow. Plus most cars are front heavy, therefore you have higher traction on the front wheels. Otherwise, forwards vs backwards travel isnt going to make a whole lot of difference.
Hmm. I didn't really think about the gearing. If you're going backwards, you have the weight of the car shifted on the front axles, and the weight of the engine. The wheels are trying to push the car up the hill instead of pulling it. Idk. I'd have to try it out someday.
Yeah especially if there are other cars around. It'd only be fit to do on a driveway or neighborhood when no one is around.
We're talking about how to get around in snow in practical, fwd cars. Seems practical enough for me to be on topic.
American class a rv vs 5th wheel home, which would be better (in terms of driveability I'd imagine motorhome wins, as no articulation to account for when you turn, unless you have a toad of course) Sent from the 3rd galaxy from the talks of tapping
I prefer Class A's. As much as 5th wheels are cool and more practical, they don't have the same fear that a Class A has. Sure, when you get to your destination in a 5th wheel, you have a vehicle you can drive, but it just doesn't work for someone like me.
Seems like a class c would be better comparable to a 5th wheel. But either way, I'd take the rv. Much nicer, and you only have to maintain one big vehicle, instead of 2 smaller ones. Speaking of which, whenever I see someone towing a big 5th wheel with a half ton truck, I am disappoint.
But why so dissapoint? An F-150 will tow more than a 6 litre Chevy 2500. Not hating on GM, I'm just saying that sometimes a 3/4 ton truck isn't necessary. Diesel and Gas is expensive, and smaller, 1/2 ton trucks use less fuel to do the same job.
Why disappointed? The f-150 can handle that no problem (it can handle an airplane at low speeds if you really needed to) Reason I compare to class a instead of class c is because a 5th wheel generally has the same space and size as a class a motorhome Sent from the 3rd galaxy from the talks of tapping
Yeah sure it can pull it, but the problem is that the truck is so light. It'd be really easy to tangle yourself up with the trailer and end up upside down, under your trailer in the median.
You can tow a small car from the back of a motorhome for when you reach destination. Dunno what class a and c are
Ehhh, if your driving a 5th wheel I'd hope you have skills to do so well, plus the f-150 has a tow package you can get (trailer sway, trailer brakes, that stuff) Id also go with the class a motorhome, as no articulation, plus if you have people with you, and they need to go to bathroom, they can do so without pulling over (although still safest to pull over anyway) Sent from the 3rd galaxy from the talks of tapping
I don't think there are people that actually pull over every time someone needs to stand up in their motorhome.
I wouldn't. That'd be the most irritating thing ever. Even large busses don't pull over every time someone gets up to go to the bathroom in the back.
Enjoy the piss on the floor. Always someone that doesn't want to sit on the seat others have sat on, stands, corner, fuck.
