The Jetta is based on the Golf platform, the Passat is based on its own platform, so nope. If you must argue, at least post a car to try and stay on topic. Porsche 993.

The B5 Passat is a nice car, it'd definitely be something I would consider if insurance wasn't so extortionate above 1.0L cars for new drivers. The B5 A4 has nicer styling but from what I've heard it's far harder to work on.
Gonna go offtopic here, everyone. You're telling me. Changing the timing or accessory/serpentine/fan belt involves removing the headlights, front bumper, and radiator+mount, which I was determined to document but forgot halfway through. That looks damn cool. Ford should totally make it. Also, whoever said modern cars were ugly, and a euro one at that.
The thing is, the front has the same squared-off shape as the old Capri, which would likely never meet safety standards nowadays.
