I like the current wave of electric sports sedans (saloons, for those who feel entitled). The Fisker Karma and Tesla Model S spring to mind.

The Tesla is good looking but the Karma is hideous.

early 1900's you'll find gasoline was incredibly unpopular. Steam ruled the day with electric being quite popular. New york at the time even had electric car charging stations.
Early gasoline engines had no electric starter. Took large amounts of effort to hand crank them and it often resulted in broken limbs, it was noisy and polluting too. Steam was cleaner (although took quite some time to start unless it was a later steam generator car rather than boiler based), electric also won in that regard.

Pretty much any Mercedes-Benz from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Especially the 600:

I really like the Fisker because it somewhat solves the issue that I have with electric cars which is the batteries. (Also why I think hydrogen cars are a great idea.) (If you don't know, the Fisker has a small gas generator along with batteries.)

To me that makes it akin to a diesel electric hybrid, therefore not an electric car. It only gets 20mpg in gasoline mode and only has a range of 30 to 50 miles in pure electric mode. It solves nothing. Its terrible. Its electric drivetrain is highly inefficient (actually, for the same electrical power a chevrolet volt would be generating twice the mechanical power). The solar panel roof? Only charges the accessory battery, does not charge the drive battery, true it would take ages for it to charge the drive battery (actually about 10-20 weeks out of the box) but I dont see why they didnt let it charge the drive battery anyway. Its also a PWM solar charge controller which is not an efficient setup. MPPT is more efficient allowing much higher peak draws from the solar panel, should be standard. Its crap.

But so far they're ugly as fuck

The weirdest thing is from this angle it looks like an estate, when it's actually a sedan. Or the oversized air intakes. Or both. Or maybe everything.

    Oh god, that's ugly.

We need hydrogen powered cars that just look like normal cars. Like Clarkson, I have no problem with electric cars. It's the batteries that I hate.

I have no problem with electric cars, but make them look like a car. All of these are good looking electric cars:
    2013-tesla-model-s-front-2.jpg Mercedes-Benz-SLS-AMG-Coupe-Electric-Drive-3.jpg 2015-vw-e-golf-1.jpg fordfocusev1.jpg honda.jpg

The last one is actually Honda's Fuel Cell concept. Unlike the weird sedan-estate-airintakesstolenfromalamborghini Toyota, it actually looks like a car.

toyota-fcv-concept-photo-556462-s-1280x782.jpg Just look at this thing. It's hideous!
