In case anyone is curious about progress, some more complications have arose. Previously I had to coordinate moving stuff in my place for repairs and my brother coming for vacation at the same time. Things have changed as my brother is actually moving back from across the country and I've had to uproot myself to accommodate a more social environment for us so we enjoy life a little more. In doing so I will be set back more. This month is also going to be the beginning of rising demands at my place of work meaning longer hours and rougher days. I'm hoping I can piece together a release because I'm dying to see this project actually have a public experience and not be lost to history so easily. This was an ambitious project that's got a possible future, so I'd hate for it to gather dust on a metaphorical shelf. Please understand I am extremely sad to have to report delays after I was sure I could commit to a release sooner, so many delays and ambitious creep resulting in things just taking forever.
I just discovered the source of a bug that's been looming over my head for sometime causing a few particular configs to be completely broken and unusable. Gonna try fixing that today as it's been a wall that made the one thing I was trying to work on seem perplexingly broken for ages. Edit: I've officially squashed this bug completely.
This is amazing, the configuration and tuning options are extremely powerful. That said, I think I've encountered a bug with the Grand Marshal rear springs: no matter what I do they always seem to stay linear. I've been experimenting with towing setups, and the progressive front springs can be tuned to keep the front ride height almost constant regardless of load state, even with the long rear axle overhang and resulting cantilever effect unloading the front axle - this works well even with tongue weights approaching 1,000 lbs. I imagine progressive rear springs might offer similar advantages, if only I could get them to work...
The version of the mod that is present here is nearly two entire years out of date compared to the internal mod WIP I have which I actually made changes to yesterday. I'm still working on things but have yet to release anything as I'm still considering how to release things as I struggle to be satisfied with all the features I've made and their level of quality on display. (been implementing brakes, automation transmissions and differentials for some cars, was trying to get cracking on the Pessima, there is also over a dozen custom handcrafted engine jbeams with custom LUA and more sophisticated part interaction/simulation I'd made which isn't present in public release. Stuck in limbo with constant tweaks and changes being made every other week or month) Thanks for this information btw, I'll take note of it.
Thanks for checking in. I should probably point out I really appreciate what's available now, regardless of what you may or may not cook up in the future!
I'm not going to cover everything I've made this year as I'd be here for a while explaining little tweaks and changes that have gone un-noted. I'm working on the American cars in BeamNG at the moment, having added The Gavril Bastion to the roster. I am not making engines for it as it's not the inherent weakness of the Bastion. I did make engines for the Grand Marshal / D-Series / H-Series / Roamer. I however need to consider the suspension of those cars and might re-do the spring/shock ect implementation.
--- Post updated --- --- Post updated --- --- Post updated --- I'm going to be trying to piece meal a release of content as I've redesigned how it all goes together. Also made custom differentials and am working on making more tunable street/non-racing brakes. Expect a small roster that'll get things added to it over time when I eventually manage to get something out soon.
Also the way it works in the reworked content is your coils and or Springs/Shock setup has seperated parts for progressive/linear springs and shocks/dampers come in a Standard and Advanced option so if/when you don't need all the settings you can use a version that doesn't have as much clutter making it cut down on unused variables and clutter when unneeded Standard Dampers have a shared Knee/Velocity Split setting. Advanced Dampers have dedicated Knee/Velocity splits for Bump and Rebound Dampers also have far better tuning as the Knee can be adjusted in single mm/s increments allowing for much more tuning on the overall damping curve. I also have differentials for most vehicles which have settings that for me just leads to quicker/better tunes.. as well as a more simple diff option that isn't really present here in BeamNG within the vanilla game. Unlocks many diff options/tunes for many cars. Still needs a bit of work but it's definitely an upgrade.
Doing some refining of some systems and attempting to allow for more varied types of dampers. Prototype Rally Pessima (I am working on more rally-worthy dampers) --- Post updated --- I intend to make the dampers cleaner to work with so there are ones which are easier to setup and use for typical use cases while having all the benefits of being more of an open tune then Vanilla content. (Standard/Sport Application Still Approachable to newbies)
If everything goes as planned I'll have the Bluebuck and Moonhawk in the roster for fully supported vehicles as of yet. The Pickup/Roamer and Van are currently the most polished stuff with the Grand Marshal and Bastion not far behind. BX, I-Series and Pessima[Old Gen] are in a limbo of mid-conversion and need a lot of work... mostly the I-Series which might just get delayed with intent of being added in an update or something eventually. Later-Gen Pessima needs to be started Legran needs to be started Barstow is in limbo due to it being one of the most problematic cars for me right now along side the BX Bolide is in a decent state, Covet needs a lot of work on the FWD side of things and is a daunting task. Ideally I want the initial 2025 release to contain the following : Pickup/Ect Grand Marshal Bastion Bluebuck (hopefully Moonhawk too) Pessima(early and maybe later Gens both) BX (Partial Release) Bolide (Partial Release)
Made huge progress on the Late Gen Pessima Making progress on the daunting early Pessima (so many configurations, not to mention FWD, AWD and RWD setups) - I am rebuilding it so it's cleaner and easier to deal with moving forward.
Sweet! Cool looking mod! --- Post updated --- I'm not sure if I missed it, but is the Bruckell Barstow planned/already included?
It's planned, it'll just take work I'm not ready to tackle in the process of updating it my content for it. But the Bluebuck will 100% be there and the Moonhawk hopefully as well.
Legran is basically complete and added to the roster of close to release material. Might have some initial limitations. Both Pessimas, Pickup/Van/Roamer are also at this stage. Need to revise the Gavril Grand Marshal and Bolide I-Series might not make it for initial release BX needs work and might be very limited initially I wanna do the covet but it is a lot of work and might come later on. Bluebuck needs attention. Might release Moonhawk and Bluebuck with very outdated material that will be revised later. Not sure. Also need to fix bugs in my Engine Lua. It's not been working properly for some time. Currently it breaks if the fuel is unstable... Rather then spawning poorly running warning the player to take action by improving fuel quality used or reducing compression/forced induction warning not to drive the vehicle. If it releases with holes I just hope people will be alright with waiting for content updates and revisions to fix/add content Unfortunately I don't have infinite time in my life and even when I apply the maximum amount of time I can it's still never enough. I care about this mod and don't wish to abandon it. I just want to put my best work forward. Despite the Moonhawk and Bluebuck being dated they are some of my best content. The engines are some of the most recent. Just wanna redo brakes, shocks, springs and suspension related content. --- Post updated --- - more - Basically my newest stuff has simplistic digressive shocks as an option and advanced shocks for the most insane setups as a tweaker's paradise. Hoping to also have Bypass Shocks on many vehicles as an option as well. Some vehicles have an even more basic linear shock option that provides something between a linear and a very basic low-end damper solution with limited control to simulate the cheapest of OEM or replacement components. The customization is so I don't just have a dozen of them... Their so basic that the defaults I make often only have one option as you can do so little the one I make is basically the most ideal solution for most without just upgrading to the digressives entirely. Overall it provides a lot of variety... This content also has defaults you can load that change the varibles and forces new defaults as a result.
