They definitely made the right decision with adding you to the team, I can tell you going to bring a lot to their table.
I agree, voices in beam.ng right now just seems "off". I think distinctive sounds are a good alternative option to voice lines (that need language localization), or at least a quick stop-gap measure until voice lines can be implemented.
This is really cool! As this rally career develops further I would like you to add a navigator voice to the different turns, it will make driving on narrow and difficult roads easier. More routes please, I hope in the next update you will add some more routes to drive, make a route on the East Coast of the USA, good luck to you:>
There are lots of co-driver voices around for Richard Burns Rally, recorded by community members. In lots of languages and different styles . It's basically just named sound file files for all the different calls and some ini files. If beamNG could make use of those, without too much conversion work necessary, I am sure many would be willing to make it available. In general, Richard Burns Rally still has a very active community still, with regular events and everything. But the game is over 20 years old by now, I guess the community would be would be open to switch over to a new platform, if a suitable one emerges. In my mind, beamNG is the most promising candidate at this point.
I'm so happy to see rally in beamng! I've spend so much time training rally in beamng. Love your pacenote mod btw. Pacenotes already feel good, but in my opinion they need voiceover, some sugested sfx voices but i'm not feeling it. Numerical pacenotes are a must. I know it will be more work, but maybe do 2 versions of pacenotes basic/pro. One easier to understand and other more detailed and with the numbers 1 to 6 or 7. Editing of pacenotes would be cool too. Also it is good to see option to change how much earlier you wanna see the pacenote. As for stages it would be great if you could pick a few stages and do a rally from them, with repairs and everything, but I'm sure you working on it. One of the big things I miss in beamng in general is tire choice, few different types of slicks/rain/gravel tires and degradation with driving would be amazing. I hope beamng.rally will grow! If you have any questions let me know i have some rally experience including few ERC starts
Thats due to conflicting mods, I have the same issue. Easy fix is to just disable all mods or run safe mode. Hard fix is to fish through all your mods and find the ones that break it.
an icon for chicanes would be nice. I took a left turn on the Italy rally and ended up on another road.
In terms of feedback.. Vocal pacenotes would be huge. Currently you have to take your eyes off the road to see how to safely maneuverer around a corner, which is kind of ironic. I don't think adding sound effects instead of an actual vocal pacenotes like some players want would be a good idea, though having that as an optional setting would be nice. I'd also love a proper campaign for it, like getting to make your own racing team, adding decals on your vehicle, potentially adding a currency system, etc. Having crowds in this gamemode specifically would also be nice. I'll leave that up to interpretation. Human crowds, snowman crowds, hmm.. Main piece of feedback I have is that there should be more linearity in this game. Having the rally races placed around on freeroam is nice, but also having a proper linear story-based rally gamemode with characters and all would be lovely. I think seeing human models in this game might be weird for some but it could work, human voices can definitely work, and you could always make the characters snowmen or ragdolls to keep with the seemingly silly no human theme for the game. I've also found driving around the rally courses more difficult even with Arcade settings compared to other rally games and I'm not sure why. I've found it's harder to see ahead, not sure if its just a me problem. In terms of me loving this game, thank you for working on this gamemode. You lot are singlehandedly saving me from spending $40 on DiRT (vehicle sim specifically for rally racing)
I love the new update, I did notice on SS Clyde Peak there was sometimes a bug at the end of the ice section. I've had it happen a few times that the car would act like it's still on ice even when being on the dry tarmac at the end on the track. Also as a side note, for people chasing a 3 star run on SS Clyde Peak i would suggest turning off gearbox saftey to let the car rev higher in 6th gear on the end straight as that will save alot of time.
This is amazing, but one feature that would be nice to add (and maybe be able to turn it on and off) is to have a warning or the symbol blinking to indicate that you will have to turn soon. (on top of the symbols already there.)
I'm willing to bet someone else already mentioned it (I also haven't done much with the mode, just a quick portion of the Automation stage), but having number pacenotes for the turns would be better. Essentially, 1 is a slow turn and requires heavy braking, 6 is a fast, near flatout, turn. Then the other numbers describe everything in between. This gives a bit more percision in the calls, rather than the "medium left, easy right" that seem to be present at the moment. If we really want to be cutting edge though... some drivers have moved to a 1-10 system. The 1-6 system is good, but often has to be accompanied by a "tightens" or "loosens". The 1-10 system minimizes those calls, and is more descriptive. Another thing to perhaps consider (it may be difficult unless manually done) is to add obstacle warnings and "advice". For example, "keep out" might get called if there is a ditch on the inside of a corner. "Triple Caution" for grave hazards (like cliffs), and "Be brave" for turns (or similar) that appear worse. Again, these would likely have to be manually done (or something smart would have to be made to overcome them. Vocals aside, being able to choose a config would obviously be great. Another is a championship mode, including several stages. AI times to beat would also be neat. I haven't played quite enough career mode to say for certain, but if it's possible to only repair select parts of a car, that would be very beneficial long term to have service times between stages where parts are repaired based on prioritization/damage. Having a rally career mode would be great too! Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself though.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. For anyone experiencing the problem of the pacenotes being in the wrong position, you can easily fix this by editing the UI layout and moving the Rally Visual Pacenotes UI app to a better position.
Only thing i can think of is more rally stages. For example, there are a ton of tight roads on Italy that weren't used in any of the time trials. Maybe a tool to create your own rally stage by just clicking the roads where you want the stage to go. A new countryside map would be great.
Esc doesn't seem to work on the SS Fastello-Norte level. It just blurs the background, and there's tiny black text in the middle of the screen that reads "Content here"
Love the idea, BeamNG is so suitable for that, but I think voice notes are necessary as I have to 100% focus on the road when driving really fast. Also please at the ability to use any car and have car shown in leaderboard as it is very interesting to compare the capabilities of different cars on the same stage.
