Recolouring a car?

I couldn't find anything on this so Im asking. How the hell do you recolour a car? This is my D15 after attempting it.
Don't judge my stupidity.

 

Provided you run teh updater and return the D15 to normal, you follow this easy tutorial

1. Open the game
2. Window the game by pressing "alt" and "enter"
3. Press "F11" to open the world editor
4. Change the camera to world camera and select the pickup
5. Open the materials editor and select the "pickup" material
6. Go to layer 2
7. Click on the small red box
8. you are free to choose a colour
9. ???
10. Profit
11. Return to the game with your new colour

 

Yeah. I'll just wait for the recolour option in the race update. World Camera wouldn't even work for starters.

Be careful using the in game materials editor. I've had it make duplicate material slots and also randomly delete materials. I always try to edit the materials.cs file with notepad.
