I will do a beta shortly before release that will be accessible by discord. But I decided not to do a beta with a very unfinished version because there is no real point. Lots of stuff is still missing or simply broken.. Noon temperature will be some 30-35C, night 15C. But my game decides to reset the temperature any time I restart it so I will have to look into this again Yea although its set in southern africa it looks very much the same as in arizona or somewhere else. sure has route 66 vibes
Thats okay, message me privately when you feel its ready to be in a Beta test state, I will be there for you
Although large areas of the map are already done I assume its still going to take a few months before I can call it ready to release... if there is enough demand I could do a patreon or smth for early access, but final version will be free on the repo
Great work again ! You can see that you had to make a compromise for the low-poly landscape. The big win is your long road through natural terrain (perhaps the longest in BeamNG of this kind). I'm really curious to see how the ride feels. Maybe you could use a multi-layer material for the terrain object and combine it with different normal maps with different sharpness. Or/and bake sth. similar. That way it might be possible to give the material a bit more structure (near and far). Just thought of it if you're not already using it . What I would also be interested to know is how much RAM the map will use.
Yea I already use different materials for near and far. It looks very similar to the background in Johnson Valley when you drive on it. I get these "vibrating textures" on the terrain the further away from the 0/0/0 point. I guess there is not much I can do about that. Thats why I wen´t for a lower visibility of the close range -detail normal map. This makes the vibrating a little less obvious.
I am absolutely blown away. Like you, I rarely do the in-game missions, instead focusing on enjoying driving through the maps for the sake of exploration or setting up some light role-playing. This map will be...I'm struggling to find words for how amazing it's going to be for exploration and role-playing fun!
One of my main goals is to add some real scale to the game with maps like this. It will take you about an hour to drive a semi truck from the village in the desert to the coast. Something which is only possible on maybe 2 or 3 maps I know of. Of course, this is a desert and not a crowded city after all, but I think this is what driving is all about. To make some miles with your four wheels and not be stuck on the way to the grocery store. Its about the scenery and the connection we establish with it while moving inside of it. To embrace the vastness of space. Only the road, the desert and the car.
That looks very varied! I'm still very excited to experience your scenery with the vehicle! Great work!
made some namibian road signs and gave the towns names. "Vogelsang Bay" is a reference to the german colonial times (there was a man with that name who was involved in the founding of the real town Lüderitz) though no real town is named after him. "Otjovasando" is a herero name, tbh I don´t know what it means. its a minor thing but I think that these details have to be plausible and maybe even tell a story, just like irl everything has some story to it. reference the distance between the towns is roughly 73 km. took me some time to measure it. so get ready for some drivin'
