Spoiler: Old post So I noticed there are a lot of tow skins, but none of them have graphics on the rollback, so I'm working on making the rollback skinnable. For now it's working perfectly but it's not finished yet. I want to make all the rollbacks but for now it only works for the D-Series truck. it will also include the UV Layout of course, here are some images. View attachment 993580 Here's in action: I hope to release it soon. Spoiler: Old post2 Well, after more than a week working on it, it's finally releasing in a beta state. As the title says, Skinnable Rollbacks.. for now it only works for the Gavril D-Series, the plan is to also make it work for the T-Series, that will come soon. I would appreciate if you guys can try it, make a skin with it and give me feedback before I try to upload it to the repository. *Be aware that the UV map is not final yet and it can change in the close future, any skin you make at this state of the mod should be only for testing purposes and shouldn't be published, if the UV map changes your skin won't fit anymore and it will have to be fixed to fit the new UV map* ATTENTION SKIN MAKERS Now Rollbacks are fully skinnable! Here are the Config Templates for the Skinnable Rollbacks. To download the core mod, go here: Skinnable Rollbacks. If you have any suggestion, bug report or problem regarding this or the core mod, post it here. Instructions: Install the Skinnable Rollbacks core mod. Download skinnable_rollbacks_templates_rtm.zip Unzip skinnable_rollbacks_templates_rtm.zip in your unpacked folder. Use the UVs templates to make your skins. Use the available config and materials templates to bring them to the game. If you don't want to use the config templates, then make sure to select "Steel Deck [SR]" on the parts selector under >Upfit - Rollback Car-Hauler >Deck - Steel Deck [SR]. *The configs have [Working Winch] selected by default. What it is: skinnable_rollbacks_templates_rtm.zip is a config and UVs pack for you to create skins and visualize them in game. Important to be mentioned that I added a UV map template for the T-Series since the original files didn't contain one, it also includes the sleeper cab, feel free to use it for whatever project you have, it doesn't need the core mod to work. The UV maps are color-coded so it is easier to identify which parts belong to the same mesh. Content: There are 3 configs per truck: [Skinnable Rollbacks] Non-Colorable Template This is a non-colorable template, you can use this to make a skin with your own graphics. [Skinnable Rollbacks] Colorable with Graphics Template This is a colorable with graphics template, you can use this to make a skin with graphics and customizable colors. [Skinnable Rollbacks] Colorable Template This is only a colorable template, you can't put graphics on it, but hey, you can change colors!. (You can also modify the "Color Palette Map" to make whatever part you want colorable.) [Working Rollback Winches] is a highly recommended mod to use in addition. How it works: You just gotta design your skins using whatever software you like, the templates have everything, you just gotta replace the folder names with your skin names then replace your images, of course make sure you do the same in the Materials files. It's important to know that for the H and D series is necessary to make 2 materials files and put them in their specific folder, one would be for the actual truck and another for the rollback, but both skins (and their folders) gotta be named the same. For the T series you can put everything in the same folder and in the same Materials file. Also note that all the images are .dds files but the paths on the materials files are .png. It's recommended to work your skins in .png and once they are finished just replace them with the .dds files the game created using the texture cooker feature, you don't need to change the file extension on the materials file. Texture cooker is an automatic file conversion, those files are automatically stored in the user folder under the "temp" folder as soon as you load the textures into the game. The paths where the .dds images are storaged: H and D-series Rollback: beamng/gameversion/temp/vehicles/common/pickup/rollback/yourskinfolder D-Series: beamng/gameversion/temp/vehicles/pickup/yourskinfolder H-Series: beamng/gameversion/temp/vehicles/van/yourskinfolder T-Series and its Rollback: beamng/gameversion/temp/vehicles/semi/yourskinfolder Just cut those files and replace them. Don't know where to start? Well, you can start here: https://documentation.beamng.com/modding/materials/vehicle/skinsystem/ https://documentation.beamng.com/modding/materials/vehicle/skinsystem/skintutorial/ https://documentation.beamng.com/modding/materials/texture_cooker/ If you make a skin using this mod and publish it you have to mark the core mod as a requirement in your post to people to install it so they can actually see your skin in-game. Do not include the core mod with your skins to avoid duplicated files and problems with updates. Known bugs: -none- Well that's it, hope you find it useful, I can't wait to see better and more realistic car hauler trucks! Thanks to: Beamng Team for making the game. @Agent_Y for pointing me in the right direction. Updates: Update 1: Spoiler: Update 1 After running some testing, I found that text or logos would warp in a weird way so I remade the UV map, now it should be fine, for now I think it is safe to say that I won't have to edit the UV map anymore, however, please test it so I can make sure it works. Update 2: Spoiler: Update 2 It now works perfectly on the H-Series. Update 3: Spoiler: Update 3 It now works perfectly on the T-Series. All the template configs and UV maps for every truck have been added. The core mod is now complete and waiting for approval to enter to the repository. Update 4: Spoiler: Update 4 The core mod had to be changed to comply with the mod requirements in order to be published on the repository. Now it works by using a different deck, headboard and winch. This parts are replicas of the originals and are the ones that have the UV maps embedded. Without them in your configs the skins won't visualize. All the configs were updated to use the Skinnable Rollbacks' Steel Deck[SR], Headboards and Winch for the templates to be visible again. Added compatibility with [Working Rollback Winches] to the core mod. I sent a message to the author to see if he would add the compatibility to his mod, but hasn't been around for a month, if the answer is yes, then I'll update the core mod again to remove those files to avoid issues between both mods in the future. Added miniatures and info files to all the configs. Removed the core mod from this post. To update it, please go to the repository section and download/install it from there when available. If you downloaded it from here before, please make sure you removed it from your mods/unpacked folder before updating. Update 5: Good and bad news, on this new update the Gavril T has been updated, which means that the uv maps I made are no longer compatible and it seems like the new version doesn't include UV maps, so I have to re make them. The Gavril T won't be compatible until then. The good news is that the D and H series are fixed.
Thank you guys! I hope it gets to the repository soon!. It's going well so far, I'm liking it, I decided to make a "proper" logo for it
Looks good but it seems a little too "fresh", should be a little more faded & rough to match the way it was before. Just my 2 cents though.
I think it's done, I tried making it colorable but I was having a lot of problems with the different paint and steel layers so... No colorable lol If someone knows how to convert complex color maps into palette maps is free to go ahead and make his own colorable version. Here's the zip if someone wants it, you'll find it as "Damaged D45 Diesel...." in the vehicle selector. Remember you need to have the core mod installed in order to see the rollback skin, also this skin is only made for the rollback config, if you take it off and put any other cab it won't work.
Idk why, but I feel like this tows bring more life to the game lol I'm not sure what other skins to do next, I've been thinking about a bcpd highway patrol flatbed.
Finally I decided to extend the skin, now it's compatible with the standard bed. Still no compatible with the longer beds tho.
Update, the core mod has been removed from this post. Important changes to the config templates. Read full changes at the end of the main post.
Hey just wanna let you know for the templates the code is labeled as "rollback.skin.pickup_skinnable_rollback" while your BCPD Recovery skin code is labeled as "rollback.skin.bcpd_alt4" for the d-series/h-series liveries. Hope this gets fixed soon to avoid any confusion.
