I'm really not sure what to do. I don't have the proper tip for my solder gun. And I don't have any Flux.
depending on how much you've spent already, it might just be cheaper to buy a whole new laptop with the same or semi better specs
Nah this laptop is in good shape and anything near it's specs costs 600+$. Just needs this dang thing soldered. Never thought it would be this annoying
With the guns I have I can't get the solder on it to flow off. Therefore I've tried to add more solder and I can't. My tools must suck for this job.. Trying to find someone who could solder it.
id send it to your local laptop/pc repair place, itll probly cost ~$50 if youve got the part already, and $250 for a $700 laptop is pretty damn good.
Trying to find one. Honestly would take them like 2 minutes to do this lol.... Lol just got quoted 145$....... Jesus Christ I'd paid someone local with skills like 10-20$ if I brought it to them.
Omg I think I might be successful. I either killed the motherboard or got this done. The weld isn't perfect. But there was plenty of Flux and it made a solid contact with the pins. New one is one.. I had to apply so much heat and be so aggressive with this board. A sucking tool would've helped keep me from putting so much stress on it. And don't hate. I know it's not the best solder job bit hopefully it works Sent through the stars by my Galaxy with a Note for you!
Windows Vista on this borrowed drive sucks ass.. Not sure if battery dead or if I did a shotty job. But yeah she works Sent through the stars by my Galaxy with a Note for you!
Trust me when my Samsung 500gb hard drive comes in I will be installing windows 7 ultimate 64bit.. Btw I screwed up I bought a 1tb drive but it wasn't a laptop drive <. < so I sent it back for a refund and bought a 500gb laptop drive. Sent through the stars by my Galaxy with a Note for you!
you know, i personally never actually had any problems on my vista laptop, with vista, not even excessive ram usage (it actually used less ram than xp most of the time), but that's just me
What's irking me so bad is that I'm missing a lot of screws. I had everything organized and I'm missing screws for the chassis. I'll find then eventually but yeah other than that this hard little project is done. The only was I was able to desolder it was by cutting the old port off. When I was cutting it off 2 pins actually popped out of the solder and I had a mini heart attack/celebration.. Took me a while but I was jamming the pointed nose of my solder gun into the solder with the desolder braid on the back side for absorbing it. Had to fight 1 last pin that broke off and was barely in there. This is when I thought I killed the motherboard. I basically burned through the motherboard by burning right through the solder on the side of the pin. Then with a knife I stuck the solder iron in there got the solder hot and pushed out the last pin. Cleaned up the mess, installed new piece with meh solder job.. Turned on computer and did a backflip 360 with a kick.. Jking I'm not that skilled... Sent through the stars by my Galaxy with a Note for you!
I am actually learning/practicing soldering because I found a Flip U260 camera (working) in that e-waste bin at my school. There is a design flaw, where if you use the mounting hole, there is a diode that comes off, and I now have to solder it back on. I have to practice it first, and my dad is currently out, and possibly getting thinner solder.
My brother can do a standing backflip on concrete, however I have CCTV evidence of him falling flat on his ass while drop kicking a rugby ball later that same day
The thinnest solder you can obtain is the best for working with small electronics. It allows for you to gradually add solder. Make sure you clean it really good before hand. Get some desolder braid and suck up the old stuff and clean with high percentage rubbing alcohol and then apply new solder. Having Flux is always nice too. Making the solder flow better. After you get more experience disassembling laptops like me you usually don't forget any screws I like to just put them into individual groups since different parts/areas of laptops use the same screws. Good thing that there's only one screw between me and all the parts of my laptop I'd need to get to. (Big panel on the bottom that slides in and locks with one screw.)
