Do you know just how daft you sound, you have no patience for the developers they are adding in the basics and you have no idea how long it takes to develop a game!
I know it's not the point of the blogpost, but it's all we've been given so why not speculate? I am personally more excited for the general dev update than any specific content/feature update.
It's alright to speculate. I like to do it next to the fire with my tea and scones. If you want to do it in the forum, you can do that, too. It's a forum. But it's the people like Meepman going about demanding stuff and having no patience about it that is wrong!
I had the same thought. We didn't get teased with a purpose-built thread when Jungle Rock or even East Coast came about, and certainly no [downright beautiful] digital painting. Sadly, there's not much else that can be insinuated that won't result in undue hype.
You thinking motion blur? It'd be pretty nifty, and a very subtle way to tease it. It could also be better particles and sounds for dirt driving, as the Moonhawk doesn't seem to be on a paved road.
Actually, it looks like there are some spots of more or less blur-less dirt on the side of the car. Could it be a dynamic dirt system (and tie in with the image being named 'd')?
I think you're stretching. Utah might actually be more likely, since one of the threads around here had some progress on it late last year.
Also remember that there are at least two fan-made desert maps out there, and the staff is absolutely not ignorant of (or even prohibited from using, as far as I know) the game's mods. This could just be a simple post image, or just the devs messing with us.
All we can do is speculate, and I know that any given thing that I've said has a measurable chance of being entirely incorrect. I'm also not saying that it is any of my suggestions instead of Utah, but alongside it. It's just that, as Hati pointed out, that's a lot of fanfare and teasing just for one map.
As for the mods thing, developers have posted screens and videos with mods and discussed using them. But for showing off new features or in an official context they tend to avoid using unofficial content, as I could see that crossing some line somewhere.
I think in fact there was something like
-Hey, Liz, couldn't you draw us something beautiful for a blogpost teaser?
That's all, folks. No need in speculating about utah, moonhawk etc. Get ready for a huge blogpost.
Who cares what it is at this point. As far as I'm concerned awesomeness is inevitable.
Ye I know that. But it just shows kinda what you said. But it's part of what they show, like part of what they're doing. You're right, I know. But I also meant that. Sorry
This should be a great read. I've been lurking around for a while and I have to say that you've made an enormous amount of progress, especially in the last few months. You definitely should be proud about what you achieved so far and I wish you the best of luck for all future plans
Looking forward to this blog post!
I heard someone say dynamic dirt allocation. I emailed them on that exact subject a few weeks ago, but they said it was pretty low on their priority list. Just saying. It's still possible though.
Shhh, don't worry. It's all over now. The bad spambot is gone. It can't hurt us anymore.
On Topic: Whatever the speculation and uproar, I know it is going to be excellent, since everything else has been so far.
Yeah, don't do that. Report one post, then leave it be.
I kinda over reacted. Well, it is all over now.
I'll probably humiliate myself more so than normal with this post but...
the map is probably Utah, but I've a little thought about the choice of the word 'horizon'.
Could it imply that the engine can now do larger maps without the assorted bugs. (Z-fighting, lighting, etc...)
Or, radically, could the artwork 'pan' upward to reveal perhaps a dev-made flying object with wings and propulsion following/passing the Moonhawk...
Could be possible, there are sand lines flying in front of the vehicle, so it could be another vehicle as you said passed. But idk
You just made me think...remember that wind app they added a while back? Well, there is no "natural" wind, or wind that just occurs naturally, so maybe that sand/dirt blowing around isn't from a flying vehicle, but dynamic WIND.
Just a thought.
Also, that bigger map idea is brilliant.
I personally think that after 2-3 years, the campaigns are finally going to come out. It seems that way for sure...the horizon is a campaign level, can't you see the hint?
