this mod is really good but why does it just break at 300 mph tops? the spitfires top speed is like 400 and overspeeds even faster
No, that is misleading. The top speed of the Spitfire Mk IX-E at ground level is gonna be around 280ish mph. It's better to use kts but I will use mph for laypeople. To get up to 400, and faster, you need to be at much higher altitudes where the air is a lot thinner (25k feet is where the top speed is rated). Trying to go 400 miles an hour and some change at ground level would rip the wings clean off the plane just because of the way the atmosphere is.
no i went up to 25kft and i checked its that high using altimiter and dived down and the prop just flies off, its due to overrev which makes sense cause beamng doesnt take altitude into account sadly but maybe it could be programmed by op although that would be hard to do
All prop planes behave this way in beamng (e.g. Millington DS-7). You go to fast - the propeller explodes and falls off. I guess there is a limit to how fast the prop can spin. Once you go above the limit the game's physics engine just yeets it off the plane.
oh well damn that sucks --- Post updated --- actually i have an idea since it says "overrev" in messages when it breaks that means it simply needs a transmission of sorts, its a engine problem so hopefully the creator of the mod could fix it
The prop breaks at too high of an RPM because the forces become to high and the jbeam becomes unstable. If it needs to spin faster, the stability overhead (less beam spring for a given node weight) needs to be increased. But double check your RPMs vs the real aircraft, with the engine at its max 3000rpm and a reduction box ratio of 0.42:1 it should be spinning 1260rpm. If its already going faster than that, then the proportions, pitch or aero properties of the propeller coltris need checking. The real thing has a constant speed propeller that alters the prop pitch dynamically to maintain a chosen engine rpm, I see the mod already has pitch control but it would be cool to implement the full functionality
Ok? I'm explaining why this happens so the mod author can potentially fix the problem. The point at which it explodes is dictated by how much force is exerted on the propellers beams be that from centrifugal force or any other reason If the force gets too much and the prop jbeam becomes unstable, it will break or explode. Theres no hard limit where it the game engine is hard coded to blow up a spinning object at a certain speed. If it blows up too soon and limits how fast the plan can go below the real life specs for a given altitude, then the stability overhead needs to be increased. I know what I'm talking about. I've built a handful of prop driven planes in beam and all of them were capable of their real life speeds.
so stoked to have a spitfire in beam as its my favorite warbird, but she definitely needs some more work lol. looks good, sounds badass, flies halfway good. takeoff and landing are pretty much impossible and i cant seem to figure out why. i think the prop, which is wildly unstable, is over torquing the airframe. doing an air start is pretty difficult as well as it seems to have no nose weight and wants to go into a flat spin. everything else works good though and with some more work/tweaks this is going to be a 10/10 mod. please keep at it!!
I put together my own spitfire and a fiat centauro some years ago that I never ended up finishing. a flying boat too. it was all so long ago that I've moved PCs 3 times since and I'm sure the games had enough updates that none of the powertrain or control lua would work anymore. I started remaking the centauro recently but not sure if I'll finish it.
The plane doesn't work on pc I'm trying to increase the throttle it's just still in one place not doing anything, please tell me what do I do or is this a bug?
Doesn't matter. BeamNG is not an airplane game. What I'm saying is what you said was misleading from the perspective of IRL.
wha? no a spitfire literally just can go faster, just search it up also i know beamng aint a airplane game but its cool
