The thing is, the 18 speed Eaton, is a 10 speed with a splitter, giving you 20 speeds, but it locks you from using "6L and 6H". Probably because the gear ratios would be conflicting, like the 6th gear being shorter than 5th or almost the same ratio. Eaton designers used the concept of a 16 speed transmission, but on the 10 speed hardware, which gave them, at least 2 extra gears, that could be shorter than 1st. That's why it is a 20 speed with only 18 usable speeds
Not quite. For an Eaton RTLO 18-speed transmission the main gearbox has 5 forward gears (Which it labels as 4 speed + "Low" Gear). Behind the mainbox is a 2-speed range box with a 3.74 Ratio. Then behind that is a splitter-box with a 1.17 Ratio. Now the thing that makes this an 18-speed instead of a 20-speed is that when you shift into high range you aren't able to use "Low Gear". The reason you aren't able to so is that with such a deep reduction gear isn't built to handle high speeds. https://www.eaton.com/content/dam/e...eed-transmissions-brochure-trsl0250-en-us.pdf https://www.eaton.com/content/dam/e...sion-troubleshooting-guide-trts0910-en-us.pdf --- Post updated --- Update v0.29: T62/63 'Snub-Nose' - Added The Gavril TCM 8.9L Diesel Engine ported from the Wentward DT40L - Added shorter "T60" front frames as well as a smaller hood and radiator to match the new engine. - Added 2 new configs "T-62" and "T-63".
Makes sense. Cool to imagine that Eaton probably used "the same" 5 speed base gearbox from the 10 speed to the 13 an 18 speed, with just different Gear ratios and rangebox ratios too.
When will this one be on the repo? ... nevermind, I found it. The game never told me it got updated, somehow.
Tried to load in a truck since the mod updated today, now it's doing that thing bugged vehicles do where they just fly off to the side for no apparent reason, regardless of config. Still checking to see if it's this mod or another causing it, but I'm making a note of it regardless. EDIT: Nevermind, it was another mod causing it. Disregard this complaint.
Actually the 13-speed speed shares all the same ratios as the 18-speed. Only difference is the bearings and such are lighter duty so the splitter can't handle the torque of low range, therefore they lock it out with an air valve.
That's really cool. I mean, it is kind of lazy, but lazyness usually gives you smart solutions for problems. Anyway, I still don't understand why Eaton doesn't make a 20 speed transmission. It would be literally the 10 speed with a splitter.
Probably because 18-speeds is enough for 99% of trucks. even making it beefy enough to handle the 20-speed would be more costly, heavy, and less efficient. Also in cases where you need even more gear reduction for very heavy haul, it's much easier to just run lower final drives. This is evident by the fact that before the Eaton 18-speed came to be, the Spicer 6+4 Compound transmission was the standard transmission for heavy-haul. The Spicer used a 6-speed main gearbox with 4-speed auxiliary gearbox allowing for 24-possible ratios. Though once the Eaton came out despite having 6 fewer ratios eventually completely replaced the Spicer due to it's ease of use, weight, and efficiency. Video explaining the twinstick:
I actually had a 6+4 Spicer in the old transmission mod I made though the code for it was completely broken by the recent game updates. Once I figure out how to get it working again I will.
I wonder if the TC-83 could have a Highroof along with Cabin Wings --- Post updated --- Even a K100 Style Aerodyne Sleeper
That shifter looks like a mack 12 speed but without reverse on the selector and the front compound on the selector instead of on the dash. edit: Damn i just saw the tachometer. Red line is at over 4000 rpm. Are you planning on adding a 2 stroke diesel or a petrol?
--- Post updated --- Update 0.30: Twin Banks and Twin Sticks. - Added the 423 CUI 'Ultra-Thrust' V8 Engine from the Bluebuck. Also included a new tachometer, 2:1 Gear reduction, and Gasoline Fuel tanks to work with it. - Spicer-Style Twinstick Transmissions are back! (With much less buggy code). 4, 5 and 6-speed main transmission options that can be paired to any 4 auxiliary gearboxes(3spd, 3spd OD, 4spd, 4spd DR). Also has animated shifters for them. - Added New Shifter Plaques for the Eaton 10 and 18 speeds as well as the Spicer 5+4 and 6+4. - Fixed T60 hood model. Known issues: Aux Gasoline tanks don't work and there isn't exhaust or rad routing for the V8
Update 0.31- Reworked Road-Ranger - Reworked the Road-Ranger transmission with custom control logic so it will lock out the "L" gear when in high range. - Added a 13-speed Road-Ranger variant. This locks out the splitter when in low gear. - Added option to operate the transfer case with the default key bind. - Added 13-speed shifter plaque - Added "423 Van " Config - Fixed some texture issues. Note: the Road-Ranger rework altered the key bindings you might have to re-configure them for it to work.
