Well - GAME ON! Enjoy. Glad it's working for you now. Thanks @NewoFox . I guess I don't make the best tech support in the mornings (I am allergic to mornings).
What a great map! I love the size and attention to detail. On my pc, luckily I have 16gb of ram. While playing this map, it rises to 9.1gb thats being used. Finally, I have reason now to have bought so much ram! My only other thought on this is a suggestion for you to make a "Tail of the Dragon". I know you know what that is if you are from TN. Thanks!
The ones in the OP (opening post, page 1) are the latest. Use the patches if you have less than 12gb of system RAM. Thanks! I do know of tail of the dragon, the windy, twisty mountain road that's the passion of every motorcyclist in and around this state. Sports car drivers, too, of course love it. While I am not sure I can fit it in THIS map, this won't be the only Tennessee map in the future, even if some are months away from release. I still have quite a bit of work to do on this one yet before it's 'done' enough to pass muster. That 'tail of the dragon' is actually close to the north carolina border if I am not mistaken, or just past it. Though, to it's credit (the map's), there's a few roads that are close to it.
*shameless plug for really awesome thread I found updating old/unsupported/russian mods into new ones!* yay! http://www.beamng.com/threads/russian-mod-remakes-a-place-to-put-your-mod-repacks-remakes.28934/ Just something for everyone to enjoy.
Do you think it will run on my laptop? I really want to play this map. Spec: i7-6700hq (2,6ghz with 3,5 boost) 950m 4gb(slightly oc'ed) 8gb ddr3 RAM Samsung SSD I can run all maps with Dynamic Reflections off on high settings on 30+ FPS and some with DR on on 30+
It should load up fine, but I would download the low-ram patches (pick one of them) so that the ram-use stays in check. The lowest one will use around 3.5~4.5gb (ultra-low) on startup, and only gets rid of the trees in the distance/on the mountainsides where you cannot/ don't normally drive. None of the houses/buildings are affected. Most trees near the roads are still there in both patches. The difference between low and ultra-low is the amount of trees in the distance is much less in ultra-low. 'low' patch keeps some of the distant trees so that it doesn't look so plain-Jane and barren in the distance. You patch the map ZIP file by opening up the zip, taking the files from the small low or ultra-low patch and putting them in the levels/southernhighway folder of the large map zip file. Overwrite 2 files here when prompted. The level zip then goes in the mods/levels folder as any other mod would. This way you shouldn't crash out, get random hitches (lag spikes, a stop-and-go type of play), or other undesirables during play. RAM use on the full unpatched version ranges from 5gb at load, to 9.1gb or so during extended play. You'll know it's patched when it loads if you see 8-bit Nintendo's RAD RACER in the map preview on the level-select screen. Make sure you have atleast 5gb free RAM before attempting to LOAD the map even on ultra-low, as the game will progressively use more ram as you play. Basically, you aren't losing any function with the patches, just form. You can also patch the main .mis file (the map load file), in the same manner, it's back a page or two, and lets the map get up to 30~40% higher FPS. Look for the attachment to one of my posts in the last 2 pages or so called southernhighway.mis. Yes it's a bit of work patching it, but it's the biggest map in Beamng.drive currently. If it still fails, reply back saying so, so I know how to make the next version to run for everyone (as this is a work-in-progress).
I dont know if this helps anyone with the slow load of the level but i extracted it into a folder named SouthernHighway in a folder in mods named unpacked. Looks like this all the way into the main level folder to easier understand: C:\Users\...\Documents\BeamNG.drive\mods\unpacked\SouthernHighway\levels\SouthernHighway Now onto testing the railroad tracks with the new train. Choo choo! --- Post updated --- Train confirmed The train itself is a PITA to get to sit properly on the tracks, thought it wasnt working at first but it was just stuck on the tracks, a few minutes later i was steaming ahead
Good to see the train working for you. What tracks there are should be decent enough to use, aside of 1~2 dodgey spots (but they're fine if you go slow enough - too fast and it hops off the track). There's some 7~8 miles of train track, so no real shortage of entertainment for train fans. More in due time as I get further along with the map. I can't build them too soon or I'll have to move them around a bunch and do double-work. You can also put the map in documents\beamng.drive\levels\SouthernHighway it should work fine there, that's where the level editor works from here so I do know it WORKS. Unless you've gotten errors of any kind, I'd say it's fine where you've unzipped it. While you don't have to unzip it, it will most-definitely help on systems with slower drives and/or CPU's and can cut a good minute off the loading times. Also, the first time it loads, it's got to create the cache DAE models (cdae) in the cache directory, this takes only a few seconds to 10 seconds on a high-end processor, but obviously is more lengthy on a slower CPU. --Until next time - Cheers! EDIT: Shout-outs to @chris_lucas for the updated intersection/train track models. Also put in my RxR crossing road graphic (which was missing in the last update - forgot to put it in here OOPS). So yea, realistic crossing signals, no more oddly-stretched cross-buck signs. Thanks Chris! Awesome as always. - To everyone else, do check out his newly released train in the vehicle mods section of this site. @Brother_Dave To rotate the train follow the latest WhyBeAre video's instructions, it shows you how to easily do so!
So the deletion bug struck my map and is going to require a few hours of work to fix. I really don't feel like repairing this map, [I fixed it, reluctantly]. It seems all maps get this sooner or later. THIS IS THE LAST TIME I SAVE A MAP FROM THE DELETING BUG, THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS, NO MORE BEAM MAPPING UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. Delete one thing it deletes many on you. Really stupid. Told the devs about this, they haven't listened in months about it. So yea, I have to repair the map and honestly, I am not doing double-work right now. It's hard enough to map stuff in, I'm not doing it TWICE. On the bright side I did get the railroad track linked from harriman downtown to the fossil plant. IT was deleting a few excess pieces here that i didn't need that deleted completely unrelated stuff across the other side of the map. It's currently at 3220 objects of 4096 total.
Do you think it would run on these (not so good) specs? It's all I've got and I won't have a new computer anytime soon
OK this is me early when I get up @ first, feel free to laugh at me. Well it SHOULD run but that looks like an Apple Macintosh, So I wouldn't know anything about Apple products, at all. It had 8gb of ram so I would apply the low or ultra-low patch on there and see if it runs. It *SHOULD* run. Make sure you have 4.8~6gb free RAM when you run it, and you should be fine. Sometimes it helps if it's the first thing you try to do, when you start your computer. (yes, I really am this clueless when I get up that I thought someone had an 8gb apple macintosh from the 90s)
Use the MEGA link in the opening post (the 1st post). Place the file (very large file!) in your mods/levels directory like other game maps. If you have 8gb or LESS of system ram, try using the patch for 'low' or 'ultra low' RAM amounts, to see if it runs better for you. Don't try to apply the patch unless you know how to work with files and folders and have done so already, have a friend show you how that knows this stuff or an older sibling (if you're a youngin'). The next versions will most likely not be out until close to October because this damn buggy editor really rubbed me the wrong way the other night with it's deletion bug. I need to step away from it for a bit before I blow a blood vessel outta my forehead (actually, I do have serious high blood pressure issues). However, despite the issues, the area of my map that got subject to the bug I somewhat hated anyways, so it'll be better in the long run. --- Post updated --- Hahahaa how'd I miss this after 20+ years of computing - pardon me I just woke up. I should be disallowed from these forums for my first two hours of being awake. Yes you can run it just use the low ram patch, one of them, try running it first thing after you restart the PC if you still cannot. @_SpacePeanut_ I make no garuntees that I am infallible or whatnot like such, but I can make decent maps - it should run - just patch it up or have a friend use the patch on it. If those of you STILL cannot figure out how to run this, I will make another low-ram patch pre-applied, and upload it if there's enough demand (or someone else can feel free to host it, that'd be awesome also).
