Toyota Celica GT Liftback (1977, US)
Version 1.0 · for BeamNG.drive 0.40

The last year of the first-generation Celica: the long-nose 1976–77 GT Liftback in US trim, with 5-mph bumpers, quad sealed-beam headlights, the 2.2 L 20R, and the W50 5-speed or the A40 automatic.

The 3D model, physics, textures and sounds, and the trailer above were made entirely using Claude Code.

Download

Put the zip, unextracted, in your mods folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive\current\mods, or in game: Mods → Open mods folder). Then spawn it from the vehicle selector under Toyota → Celica.

The car
• Three factory configs (US, chassis RA29), each in a real 1977 color and trim pairing:
• GT Liftback 5-Speed: 49-state, Silver Metallic over black (the default)
• GT Liftback Automatic: the optional A40 3-speed, Copper Metallic over tan
• GT Liftback 5-Speed (California): catalytic converter, 90 hp, White over tan
• Body built to the period dimensions: 2,495 mm (98.2 in) wheelbase, 4,425 mm long, 1,620 mm wide, 1,350 / 1,310 mm tracks, 1,186 kg (2,610 lb) curb weight.
• Exterior shaped from photos of original US cars: 5-mph bumpers with guards and rubber strips, quad sealed beams (low/high outer, high inner), amber side markers, three-section taillights with red reflex reflectors, C-pillar vents, GT rocker stripes, styled steel wheels with chrome trim rings.
• Opening parts: the doors, the hood (inside release, then the safety catch) and the liftback open, latch and can come off. Glass and lamps break.
• Interior in black (KF23) or tan (KF43): burl woodgrain dash with working gauges and clock, ribbed vinyl high-back buckets, a console with the 5-speed shifter or the automatic's P R N D 2 L selector, door cards, headliner and cargo area.
• Clickable controls (0.40): door handles and releases, hood release, liftback lock, sun visors that flip down, the ignition key (tap for on/off, hold to start), the light stalk (lights on/off, and the dimmer for high beams), the hazard knob and the parking brake. Each lights up its own part when you hover it. The turn-signal stalk moves with the signals.
• Seats: the driver's and passenger's seats take 0.40's occupants.
• Engine bay and underbody: the 20R with its round air cleaner, alternator, distributor and plug leads, radiator, battery and brake booster; MacPherson struts up front and a 4-link live axle on coils at the rear; gearbox, driveshaft, exhaust and fuel tank, all moving with the physics.
• Twelve 1977 factory colors, with their paint codes.
• Parts selector: the accessory rear-window louvers, the GT sweep stripe kit, transmission (W50 or A40), exhaust (49-state or California), final drive (3.58 for 1977, 3.73 for 1976), interior color, and the engine sound (the 20R or BeamNG's inline-four).

Drivetrain and performance
• 20R 2.2 L SOHC I4: 95 hp (SAE net) at 4,800 rpm, 122 lb-ft at 2,400 rpm (the 1977 49-state rating); 90 hp in California trim.
• W50 5-speed (3.287 / 2.043 / 1.394 / 1.000 / 0.853) or A40 3-speed automatic (2.450 / 1.450 / 1.000); 3.58 final drive, open differential.
• 185/70 R14 tires on 5½J×14 steel wheels; front discs, rear drums, no ABS.
Measured in game (0.40, full tank):

[TH][/TH][TH]5-Speed[/TH][TH]Automatic[/TH][TH]California[/TH][TH]Period tests (5-speed)[/TH]

0–60 mph11.5 s11.7 s12.0 s10–12 s

Quarter mile18.5 s @ 75 mph18.6 s @ 75 mph18.7 s @ 74 mphlow 18s

Top speed103 mph104 mph100 mphabout 104 mph

Notes
• Requires BeamNG.drive 0.40.
• The suspension, engine and drivetrain physics are adapted from BeamNG's own vehicles: the Miramar (body structure, engine, gearbox), the BX (front struts) and the Barstow (rear axle), each rebuilt to the Celica's hardpoints and data.
• The engine and horn sounds are built from recordings of a real 20R and a Celica horn.
• The rear bench takes no occupant: BeamNG's generic passenger doesn't fit under the liftback glass.
• The red reflex reflectors shine back in other cars' headlights at High lighting quality. The game turns retroreflection off below that.

Credits
• Made entirely with Claude Code. It modeled the car in Blender through scripts, wrote the physics, textures and sounds, and tested everything in the running game. I directed it and reviewed the results.
• References: the Haynes Toyota Celica owners workshop manual (1977), Toyota's body repair manual, Toyota USA Newsroom press photos, and photo galleries of original 1977 US GT Liftbacks.

I mean, to be honest, I'm quite impressed with this, AI was able to pretty much build a whole car mod and I'm against using AI to make things for you (it should only be used to assist you), but this is something that is very interesting to see and I'm sure that the intent of the author was just to show how capable AI can be nowadays.

I think that makes it even cooler. It is a fascinating technology.

If you ever want to take this to the next level, I have a 74 Celica GT with a ton of extra parts lying around, so I might be able to get you some reference pictures!

I knew there would be a catch when I saw the OP had the hallmarks of AI generated writing...

There will always be haters, beamng forum members are really toxic :D
First we had hating on 3rd party models ("model it yourself, waste 100 hours to get a worse model than in Forza!") and now we have finally gotten to the next stage - AI haters.
Do you think any games or programs are being developed without AI nowadays?
Props to OP for being open and utilizing new stuff.
Does it look amazing? Not really, I think taking a 3rd party model and just adjusting the jbeam would lead to better results.

It's a cool experiment, y'know? but I can't take this seriously as a mod. it looks bad, and even using AI for the trailer reeks. As a one time experiment? Cool :D but if you have data centers use water for this often, why?

i didnt know AI could make something this good, this is actually a pretty good quality mod, everything works, interior looks very good, has triggers for everything, everything is animated, the model just isnt that good, and it sounds like shit, but overall its very good lol

It's impressive how much you can ruin something. This is an impressive feat of technology, and if there was nothing about AI mentioned, you'd be eating this up and lined up out the door for it. Sure, the mod isn't the best, but it reminds me a lot of an old-school BeamNG or RoR mod, but with new features.

That is just factually untrue. Many people don't have the skills or time to learn how to mod in a game as complex as BeamNG and these tools give them the opportunity to do so. This obviously isn't copy and paste AI material and there was definitely engineering done to make it game ready.

That isn't an in-depth thought. It's just "it looks worse than an automation export"

The interior is really neat; it has a lot of working triggers, which plenty of mods out there today still don't have.

I think the interior looks great! I don't mind it. The exterior does need work. But the water use, in some cases, should be fine since I believe they are a closed loop, no?
And in cases of water being used, water doesn't just disappear; it goes away and comes back as rain. I'm against data centers as much as anyone because of government and third-party surveillance of private citizens.

everyone is pissed because he ADMITTED HE USED AI?
THIS IS A CAR MOD! A CAR MOD VISUALLY BUILT BY HIM! So fucking WHAT? This isn't one of those lazy ass codex "mods" where the dude REFUSES to admit it's ai. Not only did he make it in blender but he admitted it was coded by a clanker. THAT is an AI mod I want! Don't leave a bitchy ass comment about "oh its made with ai!!!!" UNLESS HE REFUSED TO ADMIT IT. AND HE DID.
