Studies have shown that the eyes of the common peasant cannot see distant objects properly. This is due to several reasons: The peasant is short-sighted due to short LOD distance. Far objects become barely recognizable. Their eyes can only see 720p. At great distances, objects might take up very few pixels becoming a shapeless blob. When presented with high object density, the peasant is unable to keep up, and doesn't see some things at all until they are very close. This is also known as pop-in. So, to answer your question, in order to mistake a new Fiat 500 from a Porsche, you must suffer from the mental condition known as peasantry. A common peasant will find the car unrecognizable from a distance, and, in some cases, even completely invisible.
The ugly thing was made by Jiangling Motor Company, not Ford. Ford's badge just happens to be in the same picture.
when will designers learn that cars are NOT fighter jets. Jesus, enough with the angry striaght "aerodynamic" body lines and stuff. Just looks bad on modern melty bodywork.
The car isn't completely without merit. I think it could look pretty cool but there are too many things like those wing mirrors that screw it all up. I think the wing mirrors and rear windows look pretty awful but if modified it would do a lot to improve the car in my opinion. If they then changed the bonnet a little bit and slightly updated the body lines on the side of the car it could start to look fairly cool. But by that point you end up with a Toyota Eclipse.
i think that particular Pontiac is actually quite understated and looks decent....the mirrors? really? they bother yall that much? sheesh, tough crowd.
Not the mirrors... You really don't see that mess of body lines and half assed design? It looks as though the designer noticed the front door line was way off from the front wing so they just added that panel thing for the mirror to sit on then some how jammed the door pillar in there too and worst of all they added that pointless plastic triangle on-top of that lot. Not to mention the stupid grill to try and distract you from all of that. Other than that the whole roof has a very 90's melty american design to it, which is pretty out of place on a car that age. This is probably because half of it (roof etc) seem to have been carried over from the previous generation car, which would also explain why its fit together so horrendously. But its not the "Ugliest cars ever". Seems Lexus have been trying for that lately.
I find the hourglass shaped grille unique. It isn't really ugly looking, I like the look. That RX shown on the other hand...is ugly, especially the rear end.
Not to mention that, mechanically, they're some of the shittiest cars made by American Automakers in the past two decades. Pontiac was really phoning it in in the years leading up to its demise. No wonder it got shut down.
Whoever restored/modified that has no taste in design. The whitewalls and that grille make it a whole lot worse. Here is another hideous car. Subaru Baja. (imported from here) More like a Ute-wanna-be Subaru Legacy.
