The first 308 looked good, simple and sort of sporty. The new one gave me cancer. Old: (imported from here) New(eww):
A V6 Mustang will absolutely wreck a BRZ/FRS in a straight line, and actually (with the right tires) get better Lateral grip than the FRS...plus a better exhaust note, AND more feature's/options...IMO it looks better than the jap sisters too...but that's my opinion...also, ...Theres the original consulier around the corner from me...It sits on main street in Cold Spring Harbor village...read an article about the actual car...let me dig it up EDIT HERE is an article about the particular car that I drive past almost every day. It just...sits there. Quite a fascinating story behind that car. Ugly as a witches left tit, but def a zoomy little car. First car to use a composite chassis, IIRC, and the original prototype was built around a LeBaron. That's the originating problem right there. Theres a post it note on the rear window asking for $375K USD for it too, but I think has since been lowered...stopped and took a look at this wacky car a few times. Not the original rims in the article either. The car (in the article) Is outside Cold Spring Harbor Antiques, which is 3 or 4 doors down from the CSP Whaling Museum (which on my diagram below, is listed in the circle). Funny, small world it is we live in. For the location, ill show the car's position on the map in relation to my house (or about, not giving away my address to you psychos lol) Heres a diagram of the car's location: View attachment 35109
It's funny to watch people dis the current gen V6 just because it's a V6, and yet fail to realize that the current V6 produces more power than the last gen V8, and crushes the last gen V6 while being smaller, lighter, and more fuel efficient.
And it sounds worlds better too...Love the DI sound of a V6. The same goes for the Current LX6 3.6L V6 in the Camaro/Traverse/Impala/Next Gen Colorado/Canyon/Cadillac CTS/ATS/etc etc etc. The new V6's have come a long way since the days of "Fuel Injected" V6's.
Yes, the Buick Verano is a VERY nice car. Check the wiki page, gets TONS of HP from the Turbo 2.0 4 Cyl and handles like a dream...I have a few for sale here and one of them has a 6 speed. In China, Buick's are like Maybachs and Bentleys over there. They just love them. - - - Updated - - - That's pretty funny, you can see the car it was based off of in the A-Pillar and mirror....A la "New Beetle". hideous, looks like a cross between a beetle, geo metro, Chevy Aveo and a blob of blue mayonnaise. The BRZ is only 25K as well, whoever said it was 40K...and if it is Euros, then the number would be even less. Who made up that pricing?
It was "lovely" to see that 10 minutes after waking up... My god. Almost as bad as the new Smart I posted.
For a mid nineties 4 banger, the SC2 was actually pretty quick. and really, not too bad considering its era. But yeah... a little lacking in looks. Somewhat related: http://jalopnik.com/5578590/my-crappy-saturn-ruined-my-life
New 308 looks way better than the old 308, only thing ugly about the new ones is the weird "thingy" in the lower middle of the headlights, shouldn't be there, serves no purpose, and the additional creases in the hood(again, no reason whatsoever to be there). Other than that, very nice car. Any Peugeot after the 206 should be in this thread apart from that 308. They're almost as ugly as an Aztec, except the Aztec was like, designed to be ugly... Some poor sod actually liked the gopping grille of the Peugeots when he designed em. And that's why a lot of us hate modern cars so much. If you start adding funky crap just for the hell of it, you're just making your design messy. That's a fact, not an opinion. However, wheither you like messy designs or not, that is an opinion. To me, a good design = a design that only has lines required for the car to be built, yet still looks good. No funky lines that are just there for the hell of it. Look at the 2003 Seat Leon Cupra R. It's a really clean design, all it's lines serve a purpose. On top of that, the front end is really beautiful imho, even if the rear end might be a little weird compared to it. Then look at the 2005 Leon... Overall, still a nice car. Except for one thing... the completely pointless diagonal crease in the side. It's stupid, it serves no purpose. It should've went across the side towards the back, which meant they should've designed the taillights differently to make the line continue into them. It's like one guy designed the front, then another guy designed the rear, and they were like "urgh, we got this line coming from the front... What do we do with it? " "idk, just make it go down or some shit". Then look at the 2012 Seat Leon... Again, reasonably nice car... BUT WHY THE HELL would you put 2 creases in the side... AND THEN NOT HAVE THEM FLOW INTO EACHOTHER... A lot of cars have it nowadays, it looks ridiculous! All the European Fords have it too now, except they have it 2 times: 3 lines, it's at a certain height on front, and there's the same line on the back at the same height, but in the middle, the line is lower for NO reason whatsoever except for the door handles fitting into them(which you could've just mounted below the line). Then look at those stupid ass taillights... why's there a stick on it that extends down the side?! It looks stupid. The car is such a nice design, yet then they ruin it by putting pointless shapes into it. The only thing I can think of for the silly creases in the side, is that they wanted to copy the 68-70 Charger, which has it too... Except they forgot that on the Charger, the shape comes from the go-faster grooves in the doors... In my opinion, 90's cars are cool cause they're so basic. they have no sily shapes on them, for the most part. And to be on-topic, my ugliest cars(that don't look like they were just "meant to be ugly", like the Multipla and Aztec) are: Ford Ka, Renault Twingo Prius(and not cause it's a hybrid). The 3rd gen is slightly better than the 2nd, but it still looks quite stupid. That stupid BMW i3 thing (again, with the silly dip in a crease in the side, so kids can watch out the windows(assume that's why they did it). Car is just a fad, just "make something that makes no sense to anyone but looks futuristic". Hate its guts. That car is also WAY too big. You know how a BMW E39 is quite big? Yeah.. About that...
Agreed, and that i3 is a disaster... But I feel functional design is the best way to get a design that actually looks good. That's why most of the newer Skoda's for example are still some of my favourite looking modern cars. The straight headlights and overall really functional design add up to something really nice to look at. Same with the Model S, simple panels, smooth bonnet and no un-needed bulges, vents or lines.
Completely agree with you there VeyronEB. The Skoda's really are beautiful. Way better than their VW and Seat counterparts! The Tesla Model S is a beautiful car too, real clean design, even better than the Skodas in many ways. Wonder where they got the rims from though. I remember they had the same exact rims on one of the BMW Z-cars, I think the Z8? As for futuristic designs, I do somewhat like the BMW i8, it's futuristic yet reasonably clean(apart from the blue acces in the sideskirts and the wierd black panels on the back). The wheels don't fit it at all though. Car should've also been a tad longer, bit more space between the door and the rear wheels so the roof flowed better, more like the original BMW 8-series. Some other cars that did it right imho were the Alfa 8C, the Viper GTS, Ford GT40 and BMW M4(god I want that car in my life!). @mrlinux12321, as much as I hate Hyundais, thatr car isn't THAT bad... It's not a pretty car, but the design isn't that bad/offensive like Peugeots and Renaults are, imho.
It had potential, but in my opinion, the weird line on the doors is a bit much. Back on topic: I actually like this one, but nobody else does Škoda Favorit. It's not ugly, just a tad plain...
Yeah the Model S is one of the best looking modern 4-door cars imo. I think I know what you mean about the wheels, the new z4 does have some similar wheels. I also like the i8 even though BMW has tried to make it look really similar to the concept, in a side by side comparison its changed alot from the concept, which is really good thing as the concept wasn't great. Over all its a very nice car to look at, the front especially Minus what you mentioned, my main issue is the way it almost seems to curve upwards underneath the doors which throws of the design of it a little and makes it look like its bent in the middle or something...
That's a Skoda? I mistook it for an FSO at first. Speaking of which.... I actually like this little commie car. There's something about it.
