The last thread about this topic is a bit outdated, so I have decided to post the way I installed the game on Ubuntu. Specs: Intel Core i3-3110M 4GB DDR3 RAM Intel HD 4000 Ubuntu 14.04 Wine 1.6.2 Step 1) open console and change to root “sudo su” Step 2) Install wine: “apt-get update” + “apt-get install wine” Step 3) Download the non-Steam version (BeamNG-drive-Alpha-test-Backup-only-download) Step 4) unzip the archive Step 5) type “exit” (console) to resume with your normal account Step 6) change to the newly created directory “cd /home/beamng-experimental-0.3.6.3” (could be a different path in your case) Step 7) start the game with “wine BeamNG.drive.exe” Step 8) check the console output for missing files. Install them into the game folder. In my case “x3daudio1_7.dll” and “d3dx9_36.dll” were missing. Step 9) → Step 7 Would love to read your feedback and suggestions on how to make the install even easier. How could the dlls be included and where to get them without a windows pc. As wine is available for Mac OSX, it should theoretically be possible to install the game on a Mac, but there are many barriers. -no precompiled packages available -X and 64bit support need further modifications Most probably the use of crossover is more convenient, but it's not for free and a properly set up wine should work the same way. Shouldn't it? Hopefully there will be some discussion and input from your side.
The latest stable steam release works just fine for me, but the experimental tends to crash on startup (grey screen with beamng logo). Also, the first experimental release worked fine, but the update to the 2nd made it not work. <- steam stable works ok I have a 4GB ram as well and the game tends to crash when i load too much textures at once in the world editor, but except for full time ~30 fps (life of gaming on linux made me pretty used to that), there is not really much problems. About the missing dlls, i am pretty sure you can get them straight through winetricks.
