It's gonna be a while, unless they've been keeping the next one a very tight secret. Italy (4x4) and West Coast (2x2) both took years to go from concept to finished map, and so far we don't even know what the next map is going to be yet. It may well be post 1.0 or at least after the transition from alpha to beta, depending on what versioning scheme the devs decide to use. Making a truly high-quality map is an amazingly difficult and time-consuming task; the first few were able to release closer together because they used a lot of the same "tropical" and "abandoned industrial" assets as each other and DRI.
"You know when you've crossed the border into Jersey when you cannot hear anything other than your tires roaring."
I don't think we'll get a new map until the devs have updated the existing ones to current standards. A Canadian map would be nice though, especially if it's a winter map, or set in the Rockies. A city map is also possible, I guess. I don't think we'll get a Canadian map, however. There's circumstantial evidence of a Japanese map being next based on traffic spawnsets, and I'd imagine that would fill the category of either "large modern city" that Belasco is too small for, or the category of "steep mountain range with snow" that we've only seen a bit of in the Automation Test Track. If we do get a winter map, I think it would be more likely to be Russian or Nordic than Canadian, the former possibly coinciding with a Soviet Bloc vehicle (I'm personally hoping for something Volga-esque in a couple years) and the latter being a nice European map that would be very different from Italy. Canada doesn't have much of a domestic car culture, and most landscapes in the country can be found in other places that do.
I kind of doubt they would make a canada map, as a large amount of canada's landscape is similar to maine, just maybe with extra snow. I think if they were going to make a snow map, it would probably be in scandinavia, maybe finland, as it has lots of good rally and offroad stuff.
Okay then :/ Thank you CaptainZoll and FPSCanarussia for the informative posts. I understand that a Canadian map is unlikely for BeamNG.Drive =)
What makes you think we'd be likely to get a Russian map or vehicle other than the fact that you want one?
geographically, russia is different from the rest of the existing maps in the game, and communist cars are an unrepresented demographic. A chapter of the story set in russia, perhaps some shady smuggling missions or even some rally racing would make sense so there's no evidence to say there is anything russian in the works, but the devs would have good reason to add it if they did. this is the update speculation thread after all.
Any map not set in the USA, Italy, Germany, or virtual reality is different from the existing maps in the game, and there are plenty of unrepresented vehicle categories. He said we'd be "more likely" to get Russian content, but I don't see any evidence that that would be the case. I like to have evidence to base my speculation on.
Once again, purely circumstantial evidence. When it was discussed previously, I believe in this very thread, it was asked what vehicles we considered "most" Russian/Soviet. That implies that there are little to no current plans, but it is a possibility in the future. Edit: as for a Russian map, I just think that we'll eventually get a snowy map, which is likely to be set in a Northern country. Current maps (plus the aforementioned hypothetical Japanese map) are all set in countries with domestic car culture, which Russia has.
I really don’t understand why people get so wet over cars like the LeGran and Wendover. They’re ugly, slow, and boring. I’m not trying to sound ungrateful here, but I truthfully could care less if the Wendover was scrapped. In fact, I’d probably be happy.
Because most people grew up dealing with the dreadfulness of cars like the Legran and the Wendover. Repressed anger against those kinds of cars go a long way.
Personal preference? You realize that this is a game where you can destroy cars, right? You're saying you'd be happy if you didn't get another car you hate to smash?
I'd personally just never touch it. Unless the Wendover gets some special stuff, it will forever be a LeGran rebadge to me. Anyway, to add to the New Jersey cities thing, If they do in-depth research, something like Newark or Jersey City itself could make for a good urban map. Believe it or not, there are also some nice farmland, suburban, and forest areas in NJ.
That's not how rebadges work. And, even if it was the case, heavy component sharing (down to straight rebadges) was a staple of american car design of the time.
Exactly, I would love for another vehicle to be in BeamNG. I'm looking forward to this new crossover/hatchback vehicle and I don't even care for modern cars. I can't wait to drive and crash this upcoming modern car. Well, I'm pretty sure that some people grew up dealing with cars that were even worse then cars like the Legran and Wendover. I would love a snow map for BeamNG.Drive. That sounds great on concept alone =) I totally agree with that statement. Making a map like Italy sounds like it would take a lot of time and effort. Fair enough
The Wendover seems to be a personal luxury coupe, whereas the LeGran is just a generic miserable midsize. I really wish the Wendover got a FWD transverse V8 instead of the LeGran engines though...
Ugly, you can think so, personally I think modern cars are uglier than anything like the LeGran or Wendover. Slow, why don't you boot up BeamNG and try one of the hotter LeGrans, like the towing package; it's not a supercar but it can definitely get out of its own way. Boring, not at all; the LeGran doesn't have quite the corner speed of, say, a Pessima, but it feels plenty fun to drive anyhow - it meshes perfectly with my experience as a former (and hopefully again in the future) Pontiac Sunbird driver, that FWD with a torquey engine and primitive rear suspension is more fun than anyone gives it credit for.
