Most buildings are designed to hold people in them. Even if the game doesn’t have people outside of A Rocky Start cutscenes, the environments are based on real life (it’s not the Cars universe), and they still need to make sure the buildings are properly to scale. If jumping to conclusions were an Olympic sport, you’d be a gold medalist.
If we're still only getting concept art, the JRI rework is a long ways out. At this point I'm not expecting it until the spring 2021 update.
I understand that, but there is currently no default character height or person height. It would make more sense to me if they put one of the ingame cars next to the building for scale or even a simple measurement in both English and Metric.
Basically so the doors of the building are in scale to a human. Don't want doors designed for giants. Oh, you said it better than I would. Anyway, It seems like JRI is going for mostly an abandoned look. I wonder if there would be any buildings that are still in use.
I wonder if they'll have that tourist resort on the (now removed) billboard in WCUSA. it would make sense for career mode, as it gives the "beam safari" bus a use, and would make sense for there to be a racing/rally championship held there.
just curious, is there a screenshot of that removed billboard? I've just recently been able to actually play on wcusa without 10 fps so i havent seen it
i don't have a screenshot, and unfortunately it appears to have been removed from the files, but it was basically an image of the bay (with no buildings visible) and something like "Luxury Tourist Resort" written on it.
I personally don't think it'd make sense to have an extremely small island that's half abandoned, half swanky tourist resort. Besides, as Zoll said, this texture was removed from the files when they redid all of the billboards in 0.13, so it's not even "canon."
I still don't get the point of JRI if it's abandoned. Why go out into the middle of the pacific ocean to drive on old abandoned roads while having to import all the fuel and vehicles by boat which could take weeks depending on where the new JRI is located (don't say use the airport because the concept art is very clear on the condition of the airport not to mention the current runway is a bit short with no go around possibility). The fact that everything that has been shown to be in such bad condition that it's basically in ruins makes me wonder what's the point of even having a map like this. Yes it's a good idea if it were on the mainland and just a old segment that no one uses but a island in the middle of the ocean just why. I was hoping the observatory would be repaired and in working shape so there would still be a reason to go there but the concept art is exactly in the opposite direction of that. If it ends up like Italy where the mainland (or group of occupied islands) is located nearby then I have to ask "Why not just do one of the other islands that have more interactivity with it?". Do places based off the JRI concept art exist yes but they are not good places to walk let alone drive due to roads being nearly absorbed by the jungle, trees fallen over, washouts rock slides and general erosion. Overall I'm really disappointed in all the JRI news and while I'm sure it will be fun for awhile it won't have any true feel to it due to the sheer pointlessness of it's existence in this type of game. Now this is only based on if everything in the new JRI is in disrepair and being consumed by the jungle but if theres something we have not seen my thoughts my change. DRI has more reason to exist over current JRI and assumed concept JRI in my eyes.
if jri gets redone, the Marston Mat runway should be kept, as an indication of it being an island the americans used as an FOB, maybe with a Douglas skytrain-like plane crashed into the hill behind the hangar end of the runway
In terms of map layout it is. While it's very unpolished compared to JRI it's amongst the oldest maps and the least changed from the initial release.
i would imagine that like SI or italy, JRI is going to get LOD mesh islands surrounding it, so it'll be part of an archipelago of sorts.
