I just hope they implement [FAVORITE FEATURE]. I seem to recall a dev saying [FAVORITE FEATURE] would be coming eventually, which means soon. :p

I really wish that they implement [IMPOSSIBLE FEATURE], because it's in real life and I want it in game.

The windshield can't fall off on most cars, only on the ones where it's specifically designed like that for safety reasons. Like when the car's hood opens backwards so in a crash it would shatter the windshield and hurt the driver. The Wendover is the only vanilla car with a hood like this but doesn't have the problem that would require that kind of windshield to be installed.

What about the T-series windshield? Its hood opens the same way as the Wendover.

Its hood is integrated with the fenders and takes a ton of force to crash open, and even then there's no risk because the frame is stiff and sturdy and also the cab has a bar in the middle. Also I wonder how they open the hood on the models with heavy duty bumper lol

I know that in real life, trucks with bullbars like that have either the upper portion or the whole thing swing down and forward to let the hood open, but I don’t think the ones on the t-series have that joint implemented. Yet another missing feature that we can only hope will one day be added.

yes, as far as "bigger things" go, there are a few that come to mind that this could be:

    Edge/beam collision
Introducing such a feature as this would likely require every JBeam structure to be reworked to some extent, which is a copious amount of work, and would require both backend programmers and vehicle artists to work on.

    Tire thermals
the blog about the recent tire changes was ended by saying "In the longer view, once we finish stabilizing and cleaning up the latest work, expect things to warm up a bit", most likely eluding to tire thermals.
"once we finish stabilizing" could mean the few changes that were already made in 0.23, or it could mean further fiddly adjustments that need to be gradually worked on over the next 12+ months.
but if the prior is the case, to tie in temperatures, wear, flat spots and perhaps a more advanced damage model, we're looking at a lot of work to do in one go so this could be it.

    Official Multiplayer
Most of the technical side of multiplayer has been figured out by modders, leaving just more administrative stuff like setting up servers, and figuring out a moderation system (since Beamng.gmbh will be held to much more scrutinous regulations than some dudes doing it as a hobby).

    Audio Raytracing
this seems like something that could just be worked on in the background on its own test branch, so I'm not sure.

    3.0 UI Overhaul
While this has been a long time coming, this doesn't seem like it would require everyone to drop what they're doing to focus on it, I would have thought it could be implemented in stages (as they already have with the main menu and world editor).

    Dynamic Textures (dirt, scratches, etc.)
a hotly requested feature, but i'm not sure this is it, it feels kind of superfluous in the scope of the whole game, so I'd doubt they would prioritise it this heavily.

    Career mode
It would certainly make sense for the beginnings of the career mode to take a while to make, but I feel like this would only get implemented once the UI is done, and the UI itself would probably still need one ~3 month update cycle to get all the unforseen bugs worked out.
so it might come in a 6-month update, but probably not this 6-month update.

    "something... completely different." *explodes*
i'm not really sure of any other major changes which need to be there for the game to be considered "finished" but there could be something left-of-field that no-one's thought of. (or something i've completely forgotten)

I'd say there are some pretty solid guesses here, but I would cross off all of those that are not interfering with other core game features. So I think that Career, Textures (including scratches and/or more PBR stuff), audio and UI, aren't the thing that is postponing the regular release cycle, as all of them, I think, could either be "half done" and released as WIP, or simply not released with the rest of the update, without breaking the game. That's not to say they're not being worked on, but rather that they are not the thing that T-dev was referring to.
I'd say tire thermals makes quite a bit of sense, and I wouldn't rule out the possibility of migrating completely from DX to Vulcan, which would probably also take a decent amount of time and could not be "half done", as it currently is.
    Also, t-dev mentioned
. Is it possible we're misreading this, and the thing they are working on is automating the testing of bugs, and this "feature" isn't delayed because it needs time to be worked on, but rather because it would save more time once it's done? (personally I don't think so, but still it's a thought)
