Just throwing it out there since I’ve been seeing the claim a lot lately. A delay in a teaser does NOT indicate we will see a large update or date of release. Wouldn’t be surprised if there were things outside of drive the team could be dealing with or bug fixing. Could be massive. Could be the norms of development problems. Could be anything.
There is a german saying which i find rather fitting regarding the update: "Kommt Zeit, kommt Rat." What i wanna say with this: let them cook.
What if the 0.30 is going to be more on the technical side, without flashy things like new cars or maps, just to make way for 0.31 to drop in those 2.5 months with some content that makes use of this new technical stuff – so that the wow factor is bigger for the winter/Christmas break, and they have time to fix bugs that come up after dropping the new mechanics or whatever it might be (because having to patch stuff up before your winter break sucks a lot).
Me when the devs finally release that sweet, sweet T-Series remaster someday:Man I’m finna whip dis ho - YouTube
That's a good assumption, the 0.30 could play the role of ironing out the bugs, so that the 0.31 Christmas Update can be fully enjoyed.
Thinking about it now, I want to take my what if back. Remember how the devs shared this list of resolved blockers? 0.30 is QoL/feature update confirmed.
Yeah on the sounds side there are really many things that could still be improved. However in the last updates, the sound team actually did a great job and we got many new and improved sounds
IIRC, most of the things on that list were checked off so I could assume the update isn't more than 2 or 3 months out, but I could be quite wrong
because those staff are doing different things.. not everyone is doing the same thing as tdev, or ferrettank or tdev or even diamondback... everyone's got something difficult and they're getting somewhere
Because "progress" isn't only new vehicles and flashy features, there is stuff that needs to be optimized behind the scenes, play testing, concept stages, some features might take years to develop and properly test, etc. Also not all staff is put towards developing the game itself, some are put towards QA testing, research, developing features to BeamNG Tech that won't come to BeamNG drive, etc. And if the Gambler 500 collab is anything to go by, they might start collaborating with more real events, which means they might need a proper PR person/team.
Exactly. There's much more that goes into game dev than into, say, creating mods. It might be that the new staff is there not to create new content faster, but rather to solve some underlying issues (which, again, seems viable considering the recent resolved blockers list) – so the development time as it stays the same. And, you know, people's brains are wired to be lazy, and since developing games relies mostly on those wires, hiring more people to do the same amount of work can greatly improve the overall performance of the team (see: disastrous effects of the crunch culture at CDPR).
