I understand your point of view. However, if they do add paid mod support, I think there will be something like the current repository approval system to make sure that it is a legitimate mod that does not break TOS. --- Post updated --- Oh yeah TalkingBath has been cooking on their latest project
When it comes to paid mods you can think of them as merchandise. You wouldn’t expect the developers to send you a free shirt because there is cost involved in labor and materials that goes into providing one. Improving the game through updates can be categorized as propelling BeamNG towards a promised career mode. Arguably the developers have gone above and beyond which is why the majority of us feel spoiled with each update. But again, updates can be categorized as helping fulfill a previous promise and charging extra to fulfill this promise would therefore be frowned upon. Mods on the other hand have no ties with the game’s intended direction or promise. They’re out of the labor of the creators and aren’t promised with the games initial purchase. So really people shouldn’t be bothered by paid mods. Of course the grey line is one could also claim the abundance of content and game improvements weren’t promised and could therefore be paywalled. But this a separate topic from mods. I’d also like to add to what was previously mentioned by Tomica; The developers may not even have controlling payed mods on their radar or plate of things to deal with. So it’s best we don’t create an artificial fire since this can get a lot of people riled up
I saw that on the MfD Discord. Looks cool. But, wasn't he working on a lore friendly Ariel Atom before? Also, his Autobello buggy has been on paid "early access" for over a year.
No ... and Yes. No, because the modders can do the lore-friendly car they want to do (LJ74 did the Signia, registered as the predecessor of the Ibishu BX and we haev two kei-car from ibishu in the same years of production). We sometimes have lore-friendly mods put on the main page of the site in the bottom and those mods can be notificated by a "Staff Pick" so it's likely that the developers will accept the lore-friendly mods. And Yes, because it would come in conflict with an upcoming vanilla vehicle. Even if they accept mods, the vanilla content still remain priority. So if Lucas do the 4th gen Barstow, until the day the devs do the vanilla version of the 4th gen Barstow, it is very likely that Lucas will have to change the name to something else.
By the way you know what is completely free? Writing nothing instead of arguing about paid mods for the millionth time costs $0.
Oh god... I wasn't even thinking about the increase in paid mods overall! Not to mention quality control, pricing, item "permanance" and stealing! I REALLY hope most mods don't go paid... --- Post updated --- Well at this point its too late, and the dev's probably should have thought a little more about community response to the "paid mods becoming official" "tease"... --- Post updated --- Agreed, But it is already posted on the internet so it is only a matter of time before it reaches "Youtube" or "Reddit" were it could really blow up. --- Post updated --- I really hope the dev's elaborate on "UGC" so we can know for sure whether or not paid mods on the repo is a thing now...
The fact that this topic has been forever ongoing is funny. Barring Youtube and Reddit, this has already "blown up" more than once.
There hasn’t been a tease… We’re speaking on behalf of speculation/guessing which the developers are probably not even be aware of.
i support paid mods but i dont like the idea of them being an officially supported thing it will just lead to problems in my opinion currently with it being offsite you have less of an expectation of quality if it is added officially i can see them being treated as third party dlc and the games that i have seen that have 3rd party dlcs it is overhyped and disappointing upon release
Why are paid mods suddenly a topic of conflict again? I thought the community had kinda settled down on that buuuuut I guess not Then again this is Update Speculation Thread
