Found this after a 3 second google images search. Probably fake but whatever. Rapid edit: OG location I found is this discussion: https://www.beamng.com/threads/beamng-merchandise.21975/
Probably not. Or at least, not until the game is fully completed and has gained a LOT more popularity.
I'd love some BeamNG merch. If Minecraft and Five Nights at Freddy's can get merch like they do, I think BeamNG would deserve some too.
The Italy map that's in progress is supposed to be larger than any dev map to date, and since at least tdev is involved with the development of T3D itself, it may be that they're planning some kind of upgrades to T3D that will allow much larger maps while retaining a high-resolution heightmap. If that's the case, then official maps might...? get expanded someday. While the "airport" text has since been confirmed to be a meaningless placeholder, I wouldn't rule it out just yet. These looping freeway tunnels smell placeholderish too. Ew no. If I could shove the very concept of a self-driving car into some kind of cosmic memory hole, I would do it in a heartbeat. The one thing I hope we never see with this game (other than suggestive themes) is paid DLC, because it would make modding based on official content significantly more difficult. Add more parts or reuse a jbeam from a vanilla car, the devs will let you get away with it. Do the same with a DLC car, suddenly you're a dirty filthy pirate and will probably be prosecuted. Even in other moddable games, DLC isn't such a problem, but due to the way BeamNG works paid DLC would be a terrible thing for it.
Well the devs said that it’s just where the map ends. They supposedly have no thought of doing anything with it. But who knows we might get a surprise of something... As for the DLC, yeah that would suck.
I never thought about it like that. You are right that the nature of the game would make DLC difficult, but at the same time I don't think we should expect everything for free. The devs are very fair when it comes to using their content, and I think they would be OK with modders using Jbeam from DLC vehicles and releasing it to the repository. It's a topic that warrants further discussion when the game is released. The whole community wants a constant stream of new cars, but the company would need some reliable source of revenue to support making new cars.
One way of solving the mod and DLC problem sould be connecting the game otself withthe forum account. This way they would get rid of some piracy, as downloading mods would require a full game and you could assign certain repo mods to the DLC. Let's say that there would be a DLC for the Bluebuck and someone would make some sort of standalone version of it with new parts and so on. Then this mod would be aviable only to the ones who have bought the DLC.
But from keeping the game alive stand point it woukd be the best decission... Look at ETS 2 it is alive only due to mods and DLCs. I'm still suprised that a "simulation" game with handling as terrible as it is in ETS 1 and 2 this game got so much success. (Yes, ETS 2 and ATS use the same handlimg modell as ETS 1...)
One issue; You'd still have to protect the .zips and lock them in a separate folder, otherwise they'd just end up on mod sites like all of our other mods; You can download an official vehicle that's not already in the game, and as long as it has everything it needs in that current version, it will load up. Gotta solve that issue before you can say modding the official DLC will be ok. Meh, it's eventually inevitable; The game's sales will eventually slump, and the devs will need something to make money off of whilst they work to make the game popular again, if they even can if that point in time does come upon us. Eventually they will have to face it, whether it be sooner or later. Just the way they do it, we will have to see. I guarantee that there will be some sort of paid DLC, whether it be user-made paid mods (Talked about before I believe, though the devs would get a portion of the sale for the mod,) or paid official content such as a new car (Bluebuck, or that bus everyone's raving about,) or a new map, or a new campaign, or a new story chapter, or whatever it may be. The thing is, I can't tell you what it may be because I can't see that far into the future I wouldn't worry about it; It may be upsetting to us at first, but you have to understand that at the end of the day, the devs have to live a life somehow Really? now I will have to go get ETS1 just to see it I knew the games handling was god awful (If my young sister can drive a vehicle in ATS, there's a problem ) But I didn't know that it was from that game.
How about this way. The mods give early access to content that is still WIP, and let the players pay to them. This way can help the devs paid and the players happy.
Just like fufsgfen said. You could just have an encrypted mod log file, which would specify which mods have been actually downloaded and which did not. And when it comes to creators, it could be just a cloud based system, which would allow for modifying anything as long as it would be a new mod, your mod or you've gotten the permission from the mod author.
Just for every one to know, the devs are not making a bluebuck next. A bus is coming in 0.12. That blurry one is of the logo, allot of speculation over that.
I think the bus is next because the main person working on the bluebuck was Gabster, but he received a repetitive stress injury.
