Back when Beam was being conceived, it was meant to be mostly about bargain-barrel cars, and 80s stuff was the cheapest back in the early 2010s.
Well, it wouldn't have had a supercar as one of the first cars then, although that one is as cheap as a supercar can get. Gabester has stated 80s cars are his favorites, so this is likely the main reason why there are so many of them in the game.

Drat. I was hoping to get full names - we don't have those for any of the characters. The closest we can get is assuming that Anna's last name begins with "J". We might also assume that Mike's last name begins with C or B, given that he's likely one-half of that driving school. Then there's the Mysterious Bob, his elusive truck, and his non-existent building. Hmm... are there any unused buildings in the Utah files? That might give us a clue about Bob - whatever it is, there's something going into that parking lot that the Beam team has been keeping under wraps for a long time now.
No buildings that I know of besides an unused bridge. There are the ECA buildings in addition as far as I remember, but those tend to be in the map files for many maps.
Let's just say huge and frequent framerate dips are not enjoyable. It was a quick proof of concept. It indeed proved what was suspected, therefore it was then removed. So nothing to see here in the foreseeable future, move along :-|
