I doubt we will see any AI changes in this update, TDev said it’s still experimental. It is possible we can see some changes but I wouldn’t bet on it. If they ever do any sort of traffic, the automation cars probably would be the way to go since they should be much more FPS friendly than normal official cars.
I believe the one of the devs (Beam or Automation), said that the performance difference is so slight, it wouldn't do much.
Does anyone know why this would be? It seems like they should be easier on performance with the simpler JBeam, no interior/tinted windows, lack of parts to fall off, etc
For those who might want it, I made this... https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/to?iso=20180713T18&p0=179&msg=BeamNG+0.13&font=cursive It's set to July 13th around 6pm, which is when updates are released on average in my time zone. Please don't be me and set your browser to open it automatically. :|
Due to all the seperate parts you can stamp on Automation cars (headlights, grilles etc.) and a generally somewhat different material setup (more materials) they can be heavier on draw calls than native Beam cars.
Yeah, it does it's best to combine materials and meshes for best performance, but it's never quite as good as an artist manually squeezing the most possible performance out of it.
Got textures and meshes mixed up, my bad. :| Will BeamNG include the textures and meshes, or will they have to be imported from Automation itself?
Got to say I'm very excited for this update. Maybe people will stop making a thousand "add xyz car" threads and do it themselves
A wile ago, @Goosah teased a Austin Cambridge like car, maybe it could be what were seeing, not likely though.
