At some point the game's older content has to be brought up to par. Seeing as they remodeled a lot of cars in the past year, remastered the GM, gave a ton of new configs to the T-Series, and scheduled the D/H-Series and Roamer for major updates, it seems like now is that time. Which means it's a fair time to talk about what cars could use what updates. Example of something that really needs attention: The '53 Special and Bluebuck are both American Fullsize cars and only 10 years apart in model years, but look at the massive difference in content. The '53 Special only has 8 configs and still lacks some basic ones like a stock car.
Sorry I was a bit....... lacking in explanation due to being sick at the moment. What I'm trying to say is this. The Burnside is only missing a few minor parts while something like the H-series is missing entire vehicle changing configurations and unique crash effects. I am NOT trying to say the Burnside don'st need new configs and parts I'm just saying they are less important than something like the H-series. I was going to make a list of vehicles that need the most work but since I don't know J beams too well all I'm going to say is this. The H-series is in need of the most work atm. It's missing a lot of good stuff for it's frame. Bolide is currently the lowest quality vehicle (in terms of configurations and graphical fidelity compared to others). Last for me is the 90's Pessima which needs a interior fix to get rid of the Beige lining that is on every interior option. I want the Burnside to get a updated but as it is now it's in really good shape and handles perfectly for a limited edition ""luxury"" 1950's car.
I posted some rambling about the lack of racing disciplines in the Vehicle Suggestion Thread if anyone has thoughts about that topic. Currently the game doesn't have many considering the intended scope of the game, and with traffic and drag racing implemented in the last update it seems like a fair time to bring this up. Of course there are a ton of racing disciplines out there but I brought up a couple that I think would be particularly interesting to see. Vehicle suggestions (See first post)
I wonder where will devs get ideas for cars after the Wendover. Maybe the concept list? Or the vehicle suggestions thread?
I would too, there’s for sure some great stuff in there. I’d be amazed if devs actually actively monitored that thread, though, at least right now.
There's a lot that's missing just to have a healthy career mode. I would think the next couple of cars would be chosen with career mode in mind, in the same way that the 2012-2013 batch was chosen with a demo derby game in mind. The vehicle suggestion thread is a disaster, I wouldn't want to be the poor employee told to sort through that for the 1 in 20 decent posts that would even be considerable, especially when there are so many gaps in the vehicle roster that suggestions are not that necessary now. One option would be a thread(s) that says "we are looking for suggestions for a car to full X niche, justify something you want which fits the criteria". Example, we need a medium duty truck. There's a ton of options that could fit that and I can think of four different options which members have given good arguments for. If the devs want a medium duty truck they could take suggestions for that specific vehicle type they could make a thread asking for suggestions and have a community vote or something for the best ones.
I'd much prefer a poll asking which vehicle niches should be the priority, with options such as "90's European Hatchback or 50's American Pickup Truck" so on and so forth and people could pick a certain number of vehicle types. There would be a ton of options, sure, but it would get them really useful results.
if the BeamNG devs needed someone to go through the Vehicles Suggestions thread and there was some money involved, I would do it in a heartbeat
I'm sure you would, but I doubt a full time employee who should be getting paid for more fulfilling work would be so enthusiastic. Imagine getting paid for watching paint dry, but the paint spams photos and roleplay ideas.
Making windshields pop out isn't easy. Believe me I've tried. it's all well and good making it detach, the issue is how it interacts with the car after. Flat jbeam objects don't interact with vehicles in nice ways.
I would assume this has to do with the fact that it can’t be 2d and that the physics engine hates thin objects. Also, forgive my ignorance, but isn’t there no detachable jbeam material for glass? Look to the past, it’s usually done by polls. I’d suspect based off of the concepts list and dev posts a front engined, Mangusta-styled, front-engine GT Civetta Fulmine might be in the future.
Responding to my own post to clarify. There would be a large number of options, every possible combination of these three categories: Nation, Decade, and Vehicle Type. Having a poll for each category would not work, and combining the top votes for each, as then you may get vehicle combinations that no one wants or redundant vehicles. Every user would have a large number of votes, 10-15 most likely, noting that this is a list with hundreds of options. Hopefully the most needed categories would get filled in.
I would hope for a second round of vehicle reveals - but I think it's important to remember that the dev team is under very few obligations once the Wendover is in-game, completing the list of promised vehicles. If we did get a second round of eight cars, I wonder what they'd be. I suspect fewer sedans and three-box coupes would make the cut. This may deserve its own separate thread. Back on more grounded topics, does anyone recall if anything was officially said about the Wendover's suspension setup? Do you think the rear axle is going to be independent or not?
