I don't know, I prefer game where developers care about what they make and also don't spit on faces of any consumers. Fancy graphics would be nice for sure, but I don't think they are aiming for ultra realism, but more to cool art style, I could be wrong of course. Art that works nicely wins over ultra realism for me. New East Coast looks really nice, but not ultra realistic, would ultra realistic effects really work with that?
Can't agree more, this game is already released since 2013, the graphics and map details have changed since then but if it's gonna have a full release sometime in the future, the graphics should at least be on a certain level so it competes with other games out there
Honestly, I am really looking forward to this new lighting system and I'm also looking forward to this update in general. As far as actual speculation goes, It is almost the end of November and there hasn't been much about the update yet, so I would say the update will come out in either December or January. By the way, it seems like 2020 is going to be a big year so hopefully, the BeamNG devs will do huge things to the game, though I can kinda see that not happening.
Earlier there was discussion about crash debris. It looks like crash debris, but is window shatter in video I guess, are you people sure it is not such in that other video?
That particle has been in the game forever. For some reason, it was much more prominent in the older days of this game, though. I don't see it that much. In case you're wondering how it looked, I can give you two words. Not good.
What exactly is this game competing against? There's literally nothing else like BeamNG on the market.
It's currently a very niche game. It needs to be developed further to compete in the general driving sim category.
It is unique in the "SLRR but not 300 years old" catagory, but it does compete in the "I have $40 and want a car game" catagory, notably with Wreckfest. It's not uncommon to see people ask if they should get that or Beam and there's a fair overlap in player base.
Sorry, "compete" wasn't really a correct word, because this game is pretty much a league of its own being able to simulate anything basically. But I basically meant that better eye candy will look more attractive, and being held back by a select few in its fanbase feels like it's holding back a lot of potential for the game
I see what you mean. The upcoming lighting change should definitely improve Beam's looks, and I would honestly say that the game should look just fine with the new lighting and dynamic reflections enabled. In terms of performance, the game feels balanced (that is, I do reach a fairly high GPU usage for a steady 100 or so FPS) for my RX 5700 and Ryzen 5 3600 at almost max settings, and this is a fairly above-average computer. I'm not sure how much more demanding the game could be without compromising performance for the large amount of people running lower end PCs.
cus it looks better now, and people are scared if something looks better the potatoes might me in trouble.
This won't, but its just speculation that if the graphics part of the game is being worked on, it might bring about other changes or additions. and yeah, iv'e got a RTX 2070 and 40fps is what I'd get on a hard to run map with traffic on, the game is held back by the engine's performance. I get better performance on RDR2 sometimes
BeamNG.drive: Exclusively for NVIDIA RTX. Jokes aside, I'm excited for the new lighting. It looks much better.
The update did not come out on Thanksgiving and since there isn't much about the update yet, I'm thinking it will either come out in December or January. I hope the update will come out in December. By the way, I also hope the bugs that 0.17 had that weren't fixed in the 4 hot fixes the update had will be gone in this upcoming update. Either way, this is favorite game in the whole world. By the way BeamNG devs, keep up the good work on the update --- Post updated --- EDIT: I meant to say "this is my favorite game" instead of "this is favorite game". Sorry for the error.
So... I'm assuming update Christmas/New Year's -ish? Unless there's some big changes we haven't seen yet.
In the following weeks, before Christmas One of the things we are focusing on is checking that there is no obvious broken things related to the lightning changes, as that alone is a pretty substantial change. It affects pretty much anything visually, and allowed to properly fix graphical bugs (for example speculars were substantially broken before, now they are fixed) and adjust things to be done in a more 'physically-correct' way. As we mentioned in the blogpost, another thing we are doing is looking to retain most of the original look for the existing content. Especially for level mods. What's for sure is that old content will not look the same as they did. There will be some slightly color-shifting, as we are changing color-space: That is inevitable. And if a mod was crazy values (for example, made the sun x10 brighter than it should be), that will be more evident now (the closer we get to physical-correct things, the more evident non-physical-correct values will be) Here's an example from the mod 'Trynelgren': (0.17 and 0.18) We already have a bunch of counter-measures applied, which keeps most of the old look, and we are working on more. If a level author wants to adjust things on his/her own, it's just a matter of re-picking some color values, should be pretty trivial. I could make my own level mods look close or even better (thanks to the new features) than they did in just a few minutes. We will probably have the most obvious things we could find in the first part of this update, with more coming later. Hope this shed some light (heh) on what we are doing and what to expect.
