as I tried to explain before, as devs have also explained before. Viscous coupling is transfer case only and not transmission, it only controls the slippage between differentials. Useful for tuning awd systems, I've tweaked it endlessly with no impact on any other performance metric. the only thing at work in automatics as confirmed by the developers is the clutch. a wrong thing value for clutch torque can cause the issues you guys are seeing. If you set it too high, the auto rides the clutch too much on acceleration. If its too low, it slips anyway. Very peaky torque curves can also lead to the auto riding the clutch at lower revs. it really is as simple as that.
Regardless of how slip is made on the move, the point is that there's a new additional clutch value in vanilla content that may be contributing to OP's issue and possibly even this: http://www.beamng.com/threads/gavril-grandmarshal-shifts-too-quick.20301/ Also, for fun, try setting the auto transmission viscous coupling values to 100.
That new clutch value is in the engine tuning packages and exists to alter the current transmissions torque setting to match the installed engine tuning package.
the VISCOUS COUPLING in the trans jbeam effects 2wd cars as well try switching between ARCADE auto and Manual at high speeds (250+kph) the speed difference is immense and CHANGING the number in the viscous coupling CHANGES this TOO low and it revs to infinity, too high and it'll never spin up its NOT THE CLUTCH TORQUE doing it because it CAN also be added to clutch torque to make the car UNDRIVABLE or almost stall on launch i suggest you RECHECK your tests AFAIK there is no real coupling between the axles as they can be made to spin at VASTLY different rates the only thing that seems to affect awd distrubtion is engineTorqueCoef but it deosnt lock front rear it mearly shifts torque the quick upshifting is in part due to a too low VC and/or lockingtorque being set wrong so far HOWEVER i have not found many examples where the transmission locks and so far on top speed runs i just use manual shifting
I did test it extensively, again, it was confirmed (and backed up in my test) that the viscous coupling increases the friction between axles.
IT EFFECTS the transmission in providing a speed differention like the viscous part of a torque convertor without the torque converting part IF it does effect the FRICTION between the axles how do you explain the change in engine speed in auto vs manual mode in the same gear with 100% throttle and 0% everything else First angle is arcade auto second from the side is manual this also works in the stock bolide to a lesser extent and this effect multiplies with speed this only effects cars with the viscous coupling code (some manuals, autos and maybe cvts) speaking of which need to be addressed too
If your point was correct, the auto would be revving higher than the manual. It is not. As I said. I have played with it, alot. It made zero difference in my own testing. Admittedly I was after a limited slip effect between front and rear axles which I actually managed.
CANT you see full auto DID REV HIGHER then manual i am not sure HOW you tested it but it definitely makes a difference on my end you could remove an whole axle and the effect will still be there
I agree and got that too. I tested the manual Bolide 350 GT, Covet LXi and Moonhawk V8, arcade auto revs higher only in the Bolide which, coincidentally, is the only 1 with the 'temporary' transmission viscous coupling value. As a control, I tried again with a modded Bolide with an open diff to eliminate the LSD variable but got the same result. The only way to prevent the inconsistent revs when toggling between arcade and realistic modes is to remove the 'temporary' automatic related code from the trans file. This does feel like a different issue than OP's, maybe further discussion or a bug report elsewhere? Search too, because I sort of remember this bug from the original pre-alpha. (Back before tire V-beams and Miura's salt flat map, good ole times...)
thats what i'been TRYING to tell 6677 its not a different issue as i'm sure this helps the launch SLIGHTY but not enough (try 320 base)
