Gavril C5 (1986-1995): It is a... 80s/90s mid-size American light truck. Based off the Dakota, but with a front end inspired by the S10. Configurations: ???
They aren't tied directly to carrying capacity, they just denote a truck's relative GVWR to other ones, like in real trucks. The D-Series' closest real analogue, a 90s Chevrolet Silverado, can carry about 750 kg as the 1500, 1000 kg as the 2500 and 1900 kg as the 3500. A similar-vintage S10 is rated for 1000 lbs (about 470 kg).
Oh damn, I forgot Americans are so special they have their own values everywhere. Anyway, 750 kg is 1650 lbs (pretty close to 1500), 1000 kg is 2200 lbs (pretty close to 2500) and 1900 kg is 4180 lbs (now that's pretty far from 3500 tho). Which proves my point (except for values in kg I used initially). The Gavril C5 name indicates 500 lbs, which is just over 200 kg. That's closer to a compact sedan that is already carrying 5 passengers.
It doesn't indicate shit. Maybe it could in some way back in the 40s,,when Ford started using the numbered nomenclature, but it's more of a "bigger truck - bigger number" thing. The current crop of Silverados can carry 2250 lbs for the 1500, 3410 lbs for the 2500HD and 5985 lbs for the 3500HD.
