What will sometimes clip through what? The wheels will sometimes clip through the links? Not with a proper JBeam. The links will clip through the ground? Heck, even tires clip through the ground, and there's a neat system in place for floating a car back up if it spawns stuck in the ground.

While it may be true that Beamng doesn't bother to simulate pistons or the actual explosions contained within, they certainly would bother to simulate large moving parts on the exterior of a vehicle. The Dev team isn't going to just leave roadwheels static or simulate the steel as a flexible object.

Alright, let's all try to keep calm.

first off wheels would not be perfect for the tracks due to the collisions so it would jerk forward when it would work
second, if thrusters would be used the gravity would mess up
then, if you use anything that uses true tacks it would lag the game or be hard to implement and lag a lot
but chain links would work because they have chain link physics where they were the same simple entity over and over where it all flexes without even needed much,
plus if you used other methods then you would have to do a lot of work or cause to much lag
take some gimmick mods into consideration, they use new things which that were not meant for the game then it would have more missing parts in the code, and if you would use hinges it could work but again, it's not stock, and if for some cheap reason you use hidden wheels then it would be terrible
and if you would lighten the chassis then the tank would not clip into the tracks
plus if you add a suspension that originates in the middle it would look right
also since people look well they could help perfect it
so a chain link would be useful because the chain is a stable STOCK thing that we could merely modify to advantage
    in other words iheartmods, checkmate
oh and you know how you don't give a reason it is a bad idea are you sure you aren't jealous because you are inferior, also try not putting so much salt on your food

Just throwing this out there so this thread can die... you all do know this has been done already right? Like... several times by several different people. Tracks are totally doable in this engine and they aren't even terribly difficult. It just takes a long time to set up. The method for doing them was figured out back in RoR but several moders have rediscovered that same thing in beam and found it to work just as well as it used to.

There are about 4 different working methods to make tracks, if I must I can go into explaining them, but I really don't feel like it right now.
