Hello! This is my first thread and my first mod, so I will probably make some mistakes. The aim of this mod is to create a lore-friendly version of the second generation Volvo S40. Volund (Völund in Swedish) is an automaker from Sweden, and its name comes from the legendary blacksmith Völundr, who is part of ancient Norse mythology. This brand has been a reference in road car safety since its origins in 1927, which is reflected in many advancements and inventions introduced by the company, such as the three-point safety belt in 1959. Talking about the car itself, the Volund S40 is a small sedan presented in 2003, with production starting in 2004. With a length of 4.47 m and a width of 1.77 m, it is a very versatile vehicle that can be used for city driving without problems while also being very capable on open roads. This model (I will try to include all of these engines in the mod) features the following engines: Diesel: Inline-4: 1.6D, 2.0D Inline-5: 2.0D (D3 and D4), 2.4D Petrol: Inline-4: 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 Inline-5: 2.4, 2.5 (T5) The T5 variant is the only one available with AWD. All versions can be paired with manual or automatic transmissions. Moving away from the lore introduction, this is the first mod I have made for BeamNG. Previously, I made a mod of the real version of this car for Assetto Corsa, but it remained private because the quality was very low. I have spent a lot of time fixing the 3D model I had, although it still has many errors that need to be addressed. I will also need to learn how to work with JBEAMs, physics, suspension, etc., so don’t expect it to be released anytime soon. It is worth adding that of course it is going to be free. Below, I will post some images of the current state of the model. As I said before, it still has many issues and the topology is not very good. My plan is to create several variants, from the base spec to the R-Design trim, featuring different parts and wheels that resemble the factory options as closely as possible. I also want it to have fully functional doors, trunk, and hood, as well as a fully functional dashboard with warning lights and gauges. REMINDER: The development of this is going to be slow because I'm still learning how to do mods If you made it this far, thank you for reading, and here are the screenshots:
Man this looks awesome so far, looking forward to it! If you're finished with this one, do you also have plans for the first generation car?
-- --- Post updated --- I just wanted to know how to make mods for beamng, so it depends on how difficult is for me and also on how much time I have available, because being honest right now I don't have much, but let's see! Thank you but I have also a S40, so I'm covered xD To be honest I have a lot of things going on, right now I'm working on doing the inside part of the boot and the main chassis, because the model only has the exterior part, but I will upload again when I make significant progress. The main problem is that this model looks good from the exterior but the details are not there, such as headlights and taillights, chassis, main frame, suspension, etc., so it still has a lot of work to do.
you COULD try to change some things to make it lore friendly. (i dont hate the project but i think it would be a bit better with some changes to the car, and yes im aware that there is mods that are irl cars with the badges changed)
Hello again, I've made a significant progress making the 3D model, which I think is almost finished, at least the first version. Below are some screenshots of the things done: The next step is watching a lot of tutorials to know how to put the car into BeamNG (xD) and, at least, get it working.
Hey, I own one of these Volvos, let me know if you need any reference pictures. I've also got some oddball equipment for it if you wish to have some references of that too.
