Vulkan API – Feedback, Known Issues, and FAQ

    Works quite well for the most part, lowering frametimes by around 10% :D

    Only issues I've had are some weird artifacting on the realtime cubemaps:

    (cubemaps at 1024px)

    There was some very colorful artifacting at <=512px:

    The interesting part about these artifacts is that switching cubemap res and update rate (reinitializing it, I suppose), makes them go away, and coming back with another change to the settings.

    No particles render, but that was already written.

    (Issues also occur on Vulkan + Safe Mode + Debugging, as well as running slow there, but that is expected because of debugging info)

    The game also crashed after being minimized for a bit. This has been happening for a while generally, but seems to happen faster on Vulkan.

    Specs: i7-4790K @ 4.4GHz, RTX 3070 (Driver 471.11), Windows 10 Enterprise 19042 (20H2), 24GB DDR3-1866

    Question: What is the motivation behind Vulkan? Only performance? Will this assist the planned stereo-rendering support?

    So now Vulkan is running again for me and the performance is quite good i cant go past 40fps though but at least its not dropping much after spawning 10 cars or so. One thing i noticed though the colours seem to look a bit off they are way darker than in the normal mode.

    I'm running the game with an AMD 3400g 16GB of RAM. And I can't start the game in Vulkan mode. Not on Linux nor on Windows 10.

    So far I'm not finding Vulkan very stable on Linux, I would stick with Direct X for now.

    I'm getting a frequent crash which is something like a UI timeout has been reached. The errors says it's commonly caused by anti-virus but I'm not running one.

    Was this solved yet? I have a 4700U laptop aswell and getting the CTD on vulkan launch.

    Bugs i encountered:

    Display modes act a bit strange, for example with the borderless one if i click on something on my 2nd monitor beamng flashes a bit like if i changed the display mode. Then fullscreen is like windowed because i can resize the game. Windowed is normal

    When i switch display modes or i resize the game in the windowed one the game glitches a lot with a lot of creepy squares and things like that, last time the gavril d-series was all black and white and also squished in the top left corner with some other strange glitches. After like 3 seconds the glitches disappear

    If i move the camera slowly the game is fine, but if i move it fast enough some strange purple glitches appear (I will upload a video)

    And the last bug is that the game crashes when i minimize it [Status application hang (I will post a screenshot of this too)]


    Specs, OS and Drivers:

    Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview 10.0.22000 build 22000
    I5 9600K
    16GB Ram 3000MHz
    AMD RX5700XT with AMD Adrenalin 21.7.1 drivers

    I have a custom undervolt preset in the AMD Radeon Software but even if i rollback to the stock AMD settings all the issues remain.
    Same thing with safe mode

    Edit: Same with not beta AMD Drivers (21.6.1)

    The game doesn't launch when I try running it on Vulkan mode, it crashes with a 0x00000001 error.

    My specs

    AMD Ryzen 5 4500U
    AMD Radeon 384SP (Driver version 21.7.2)
    8GB Ram
    Windows version 10.0.19042 Build 19042

    When turning the camera fast I get pink artifacts on the sides of my screen. Interestingly it doesn’t show up on screen recordings but I can confirm it happens regardless of what monitor I use or if I’m using hdmi or DisplayPort

    So I tried vulkan mode, but the performace is worse than dx11.
    There are weird artifacts on the car, and a big square blinking shadow that seems to be triggered by moving the camera around (screenshots 4 and 5, log file with _). Weirdly this seems to only happen on grid small,pure. These do not apperar in vulkan safe mode, instead the terrain randomly flashes in and out of existence(screenshot 1, log without _). This also didn't appear in other maps, but I couldn't test this properly, because I get single-digit fps in vulkan safemode on any map other than grid small, pure.
    There are no particles in vulkan mode.
    About 10 seconds after exiting the game, an access violation error appears.(screenshot 2)
    My specs:
    WIndows 10 pro, version 20H2, build 19042.1110
    Intel core i5 9600kf
    Nvidia rtx 2070, driver version 471.41
    32gb ram (4x8gb)

    What I have tried in short:
    - Fix the dlls via the Proton Log and Dependency Walker; Worked
    - Test Vulkan via a Tool; worked

    Interesting:
    - Log L. 3162: `18192.868:0140:0144:warn:seh:dispatch_exception "D:\\jenkins\\workspace\\gameengine\\build\\gameengine\\Engine\\source\\gfx\\vk\\gfxVkDevice.cpp(285) : Fatal-ISV - Failed to initialize Vulkan\n"`- Where can I find this file? I want to know, where this comes from.

    Although I'm aware of known bugs, I'll report everything I've noticed with Vulkan API.

    ISSUES
    • Maps and sounds load, but textures and models doesn't, leaves me with this black screen. I can drive and sounds are correct but there is nothing visible.

    Intel Core i7 7500U
    AMD Radeon R7 M445 4GB (AMD Adrenalin 21.5.2 Legacy)
    16GB 2133Mhz Dual Channel RAM
    1TB Toshiba MQ01ABD100 HDD
    Windows 10 Home 20H2 (19042.1165)

    I've removed AMD drivers with DDU and reinstalled the latest version available from AMD, these problems occurs both in Vulkan and Vulkan Safe Mode.

    Edit: I can't add beamng.log file for whatever reason. It keeps loading and loading and nothing happens. I can upload it to an file upload service if needed.
