@theadministrateur that was the crown victoria that explodes, the only defect that the explorer had was those firestone tires, the car is actually really safe,id do much better off in one of those rather than a geo metro or some other economy car
Don't take this the wrong way, but I actually like "The Administrateur" more. It's just a bit catchier. Perhaps more official sounding. Looking through this list, I'm starting to wonder how I managed to survive my first several years of driving using an automatic, late 2000's SUV from a now-defunct GM brand over ~30,000 miles without any major incident. Especially with parking. Edit: Not that I'm recommending the above. Get something small, cheap, reliable, and good on gas. Just like what everyone else has been saying.
If you know what your doing, and know the most basics of car maintenance, you really shouldn't have a problem with the tires. And if you don't panic when an accident happens in front of you on the interstate you shouldn't really have any problems with rolling either. Like if a car somehow spins around in front of you. Instead of trying to dodge it and rolling the thing, you might just have to take one for the team and hit the car. You gotta do whatcha gotta do.
ive studied handling of SUVs,ive seen people flip those things cause they swerve around the car that went infront of them, suvs are not intended to handle like a F1 car,i did some practice last year in a 2014 chevrolet captiva on a farm in minnesota,i suprised my parents of what i was capable of,they say i am a extremely safe driver. i completely agree with you,and in 10th grade i will take auto shop at my high school,so i will know how to repair the explorer.
A lot of new suvs would be a lot harder to flip than some of those old body on frame ones. Like my dad's highlander wouldn't be able to flip on flat ground without any help. Kinda seems like unibody cars are less "flippy" than body on frame cars. Idk why. Everyone's "safe" when they first learn to drive a car. The real problem is when you learn to drive and don't have much experience yet. A lot of people say I'm gonna be a really stupid driver. Which is true, to some extent. I drive fast, but I'm not unsafe or a dick. You gotta know when to drive slow. Gotta have a bit of self control. I also have great reaction time and do really good making quick decisions under pressure, so I honestly doubt I'll be involved in any serious accidents my first few years of driving. I don't really think studying the handling of old suvs will really help much. It probably can a little; the biggest part is driving them and figuring out their limits.
Well, if you want a project while you are waiting get something like a '70 - 80' camaro, pontiac, or corvette. if you want a car that gets good mileage, go on craigslist and get urself a honda from the 90s if you wanted a car that would make you look good, get a project car. dont turn into a honda, toyota, hyundai loving dickhole unless you want ur only friend to be ur ricebucket because everyone knows that muscle cars do BIG ASS FUCKIN WHEELIES and japanese cars only make smoke. In the ways of my fam, my moms first car that she still has today is a 1981 corvette with t-tops and the origional tires are on it. My brother, well, heres a list: 1983 camaro berlinetta 1989 k5 blazer 1970 pontiac LeMans 2-door <----- Easy parts, SOOOOO RUSTY and in pieces 1995 honda accord lx 1990 ford f-150 xlt lariat chevy silverado (90s maybe) 1980 chevrolet camaro berlinetta 1970 Pontiac LeMans 4-door <------- Hard parts, almost rust free As for me, im 12, but so far i want either of the following: 1972 ford ranchero 1972 - 75 ford gran torino 1973 pontiac trans am
Twelve is a little young to start thinking about your first car, or to be posting on the forums for that matter.
I hope you're being sarcastic, because this is quite the stereotypical American 12-year-old post. Have an open mind about cars.
Adding to Jackattak's above post, all of the cars you listed are post-smog regulation underpowered pigs that would get their asses handed to them by 80% of imports on the road.
yup, my Tacoma and my moms 4 cyl accord will literally lay shame to all the cars on that list practically lol
I would personally say get a Honda Civic there cheap, fuel efficient, plus they are moddible (if you are into those things of course) Never expect anything fancy as a first car. also I forgot to mention they are easy to maintain and they last if properly taken care of.
I would strongly recommend against a RWD small pickup truck like my Sonoma. They are notoriously bad in the snow (an inch confuses mine) and are extremely scary in the rain (or fun, if you can drive). Something small, FWD, and Japanese is highly recommended.
93 Ford Exploder 2dr: Pros: Probably good as a trail rig. Not too bad to look at. Very easy to upgrade for offroad use. Cons: Baby's first deathtrap 93 Mitsubishi Montero: (got my vote, but then again, I'm running all 1st gen Montero drivetrain parts in my truck) Pros: Super cool unassuming trail rig with factory air locker, on-the-fly 4wd, Optional bouncy seats, and standard 4.63 gears. Cons: No one will ever compliment your car, as they are quite boring. Very difficult to upgrade because Mitsubishi loves proprietary parts. 84 Volvo 240 sedan: Pros: Cool. Best on gas and safety. Everyone on this site has a hard-on for them, putting it on the list basically guaranteed it's victory. Cons: Not as cool as the wagon IMO. No matter how much you trick it out it is still just an economy car. Maybe that's all you want though. 96 Cheverolet Suburban: Pros: Capable offroad, but not extremely so. The ultimate in practicality, good for a family car. Quite capable of towing. Huge gas tank. Cons: Boring gas guzzler, not good for fun or for a first car. That huge gas tank hurts to fill. Adding to this thread is somewhat pointless now, but what the heck.
Assuming you're not an off-road guy, get the Lolvo. And please, don't slam it on ginormous wheels or intentionally make it look ghetto. A lot of Volvo modders are into drifting in the worst way, so it's hard to find a modded one that's nice and sensible and looks good.
